JPII had a lot of opposition to his even being elected pope and that opposition remained after his ascension. Many inside the church cringed at JPII because he was such a political activist, especially when it cam to eastern Europe (standing up to the communists). The previous policies of the church regarding eastern Europe was one of concilation in return for allow the church to continue to exist in those countries.
Therefore, JPII had enemies from within the church and from the atheistic communist government of the USSR.

you know, some people hear things that reflect truth in the spirit world... if this man heard what I'm hearing now I can understand where he was comming from... at the point of freedom for humanity the chruch swoops in and finds a path to reinslave us, clogging the path to healing, peace and harmony... it's enough to make anyone want to shoot the pope.

i suspect the person was a christian who thinks the pope is the anti christ...
you know there are lots of anti catholic sites/propaganda out there(even chick tracts, most of them would come from a christian(if not all).
