What do you mean by "fulfilling"? The word implies that there is some ultimate purpose or meaning that over arches all of us. Are you wondering whether atheist live lives more in tune with this ultimate meaning and purpose? But atheist don't believe there is any ultimate meaning or purpose to life... do they? If they do, please fill me in on what this purpose and meaning are and where do they come from. And if they don't, why ask a silly question like this one? Edit: You might agree with N. Cognito. He conditions an answer to each individual. According to him, the answer all depends on what each person desires, and then how they achieve those desires. But if that is the case, then religious folks have their religious desires, and they can be just as successful at satisfying their religious purpose. Then again, Hitler wanted to rid Europe of Jews, and he came very close to doing so. In N. Cognito's world, Hitler lived a pretty fulfilling life.

I treat people the way I would like to be treated. I'm proud of the fact that my strong moral code is based on my own decision. I do not need the bribery of heaven or the threat of hell to keep me on the "straight and narrow".
I always wonder whether all the deist who think atheists can't lead good lives were to suddenly realise there was no god, would they all go on mass killing sprees because suddenly there's "no reason not to"?
My ideal goal is to have a happy life, and to affect the lives of people in as positive a way as possible. Lets face it, there is no such thing as a good life. There are just good intentions.

Interesting question.
I'd like to continue my education. I'd be a student for life if I could. I'd love to have a chance to finally get a PhD in Archeology. So I'd have to say a good education is one of the goals.
Another is that I want to have a career I love. I'd like to own my own business one day. My husband and I both work in hotels so it would be wonderful to own our own hotel somewhere. So thats another goal.
I want to stay married to my husband until my dying day. I really want this marriage to work (so far its working like a charm). So I suppose thats another goal.
As for a family... its not so much a goal as "if it happen, it happens". I've never wanted to have a family with kids. Mostly its just not something that occurred to me unless I was asked. Though it no longer scares me like it once did. I'm getting a bit old to start thinking about kids because its going to be at least another year or two before I'll consider it and even then, only if I've been with my husband for another year or two.
Right now, those are my goals. They will probably change as life goes on.

My goals have always been to be a caring and considerate human being. To leave thinking about new achievements until your last days might be a bit pointless. Provided I have been a good person why would I need to do anything more? I know I could have been a lot better, I am no more perfect than the next person.

I would feel that I had led a good life if my children were successful in whatever they wanted to do, I had done nothing to hurt or harm anyone else intentionally and to work hard to contribute something to the world and provided for myself and my family to make their life more fullfilling. As far as I know I have no enemies, so I suppose I am doing OK on one of my goals, I am valued in work and my wife and family love me (I think - haven't heard anything to the contrary!) - I'll have to wait and see if I am successful with my children's future. They both seem to have similar values to me so I think I'm doing OK with them. I want to enjoy my life, but not at the expense of others - 38 years so far and all seems good, and I've been an Atheist for all of them. Shame there is no after life, because I suppose the number of people crying at your funeral is a fairly good indicator of how well you did in life, but I'm afraid that's one party I won't be around for.

I work, I pay my bills & taxes.I don't break the law but I do bend some rules to suit me. I respect others and I give out a lot of love to friends, family & others. I live live to the full and I don't regret a lot of things.
At the end of days I will be content knowing that I didn't waste my life being told stories from a paperback book that has been re-written so many times with so many versions.

What makes you think that people who believe in a God of some description live a better life or are deemed to have lived a good life. As an Atheist I see no reason to attack someones belief in their God or how they worship He, She, or It. Atheists don't want you or your fellow believers to stop worshipping your Deity as you wish to. What I as an atheist object to is the smug I am right and everyone else is wrong attitude. Who knows, maybe you are right but you may as well not be. It doesn't matter to me. I think what most of the religious people on here are sadly lacking in is a fundamental of religion "Humility"

Kind of a silly question and a little on the childish side. What is good? Certainly good for you may be bad for me. If I owned a bank.. me foreclosing on your house because you lost your job would be good for the owners of the bank.. but bad for you.
Let me ask you. How can you see the christian god as a moral standard after all the bible claims he's done? A moral standard is not.. "I do this but you do that".. If god is a standard.. then god's acts would be moral for god and for you. That is the meaning of standard.
Since god is the creator of evil (Is 45:7 kjv) according to your bible then how can god be this "all good" being and how can you be "good" and worship it? To worship the creator of evil is not so good methinks..
"I am called evil by people because they cannot force me to believe the way they do"

You can treat people with respect and tolerance without being religious. I do. I treat people how I expect to be treated and I don't hold grudges as life is too short.
Achievements: to have a family and bring them up to have respect for others.
Just because we don't believe in a god, doesn't mean we are not good people. I think religious people need to learn the word tolerance......
