I've been in love with a guy for three years - we have seen each other on and off and he claims to love and care about me too, but he doesn't want to commit. Now I have suspicions that he is just seeings other girls. Should I remain friends with him still - it just hurts a lot. Would just making a clean break with no contact make sense?

Clean break. Definitely. I have no doubt about it. If he has not committed to you in three years, then he is never going to do it, and you are just going to get hurt over and over again. Meanwhile, you are making yourself unavailable for a guy that will love you and treat you right. Dump the guy, completely and utterly. If you are friends, then tell him why. Then cut off contact. Don't talk to him. Don't answer his calls or emails. Nothing, even if he promises to change. Then just keep yourself really busy for awhile. Get some exercise. Hang out with your friends. Join a club or do some volunteer work. Have some fun! Whatever you need to do to occupy yourself while you get over him. By getting out there and staying involved with life, you'll open up your chances of meeting someone with similar interests and values as you. Then you'll fall in love with someone who will love you back! Good luck!

Clean breaks are always better. They are hard but it works. Staying friends with this guy would just be torture for you. If he wants you, he will come get you.
