Because your parents know better than you in almost everything in life. After all they have been down your path in spite of the fact you think your situation is different. They also pay the bills and own the house. So the respectful thing is to obey their rules even if you don't agree.
One thing most kids forget about is that parents do not set rules just to make your lives miserable. They set rules to keep you safe and teach you to be an honest, trustworthy adult who can succeed in life and not end up making so many life changing mistakes. The rules are out of love, not dislike, anger or just plain wanting to cramp your style.
Never forget someday you will have a teen yourself. Would you want them doing some of the things you do? Would you want your little girl sleeping with that type of guy? Would you want your son being trapped by that type of girl?
Ask those questions in your own mind and then step back and take a different look at your parents.
Show some respect or else move out.

They probably understand you a lot better than you understand them. Don't forget that they have been teens before, believe it or not, but you have not been an adult yet. It is a scientific fact that a teen's brain and decision ability is not fully developed. Due to this fact and the dangers involved, legally and ethically your parents DO rule you. They are responsible for whatever happens to you, and if they are smart, they will take that responsibility seriously.

Actually, our parents understand our thinking, we're the one who don't understand their thinking. As a teenager, we want to be free and I could make sure that our parents will not force us and let us be free as long as we follow their instructions. Our parents just wanted us to be better than them, that's why they act to rule us....and if you are not happy with the way your parents act, just tell them. They will understand!

my parents messed up my life even after i was 18. Not letting me date, or go out to clubs (which is legal here in the uk) They also refused to let me go to a final meal with my cousin before he died. even though they went.
I left home when i was 19 and upon collecting my belongings had found they'd been sent to a landfill site. Everything i ever owned apart from a bin bag full of clothes was destroyed. I no longer speak to them and it fgoes to show not every parent knows best

Because our parents know us better than we know ourselves. They have been around alot longer than we have so they have more experience. They know by watching what you do, what freedoms and what restrictions we should have. If you want to prove to your parents that you are an adult then you should show them that you are mature enough to realize this and do what they say. Follow their advice and guidelines. If you fight them on every little thing they will only see that you aren't grown up enough to have more trust and freedom! And it's not bad that they have authority over you, they are there to help you grow up into a good responsible adult and to keep you safe. Good parents are what every child needs, be thankful they love you enough to watch over you.

Trust me, your parents understand. That's why they go to such lengths to set rules and bounderies. They were teenagers once too, you know. Believe me, when you hit 24, and you're out on your own, you'll look back and realize all they did for you...and miss it.

Because life's experiences are the best teacher. Your parents have been down that road and they are a heck more mature and level headed then you can ever be at this age.

Because until the day you turn 18 years old, they ARE ruling you, as is their legal obligation.
So suck it up and listen to your parents - they;'re trying to keep you safe and out of trouble.
