I think we all make up our own meaning of life. Mine is to be a good person, help others, and love my family and friends. That may not float everyones boat, but it works for me. After all, we only have this one life!

I don't think so. And, if that were the case, I would be the most miserable of the miserable, I believe. I would have been partying my brains out just to ease the pain of this dreaded notion, and probably would have died earlier on in my youth from the ramifications of both sex and drug addictions!
But, despite this brutally apparent reality due to the brevity of life and the inevitability of our imminent death, which is expressed so consistently well by existentialists such as Jean-Paul Sartre, and eloquently in the book of Ecclesiastes of the Bible, I believe God has brought meaning and purpose to humanity again through His Son Jesus, the Christ's victory over death and the grave via His historical death, resurrection, and ascension before God His Father, so that we might do the same through Him. So, instead, I live for Him, in an attempt to live my life as He did for me.

i see youre just exploring the possibility of there being no meaning to life, not making a statement, so i will answer as such.
a lot of people answering this question have used the concept of morality as proof that a God must exist, by building morality around their already existing idea of God. i personally think its the other way around. God was invented to justify the phenomenon of morality in a world that doesnt definitively answer the question of cosmic purpose. in other words, the very definition of religion.
as for me, i can only report what my senses perceive, and make assumptions and theories from that data. im not as proud as self-righteous christians or egocentric atheists to say that my theories are any more or less correct then anyone elses.
i choose to believe we are the result of a huge cosmic coincidence, and that life itself has no universal meaning. so? the dumbest animals on Earth get by just fine without having to justify their existence. but as long as were all coexisting on this great big spaceship called Earth as free-thinking individuals, theres no reason that we cant find our own reasons to exist.
so in answer to your question, no there does not have to be a meaning to life, and im just fine with that.

It's preposterous order to teach first, learn after.
Go ye and "learn" what "meaneth":
"I will have mercy, and not sacrifice".
(Ps 40:6; 51:16; Hos 6:6; Mt 9:13; Heb 10)
He "meaneth": I will have grace, and not law.
Pst: "not" part is not then, not now, not ever.
So then what's "evident" from all the evidence?
"That no man is justified by law in God's sight".
POINT: Grace isn't Mt 22 Law Law nor Rom 8 Law vs Law.
Grace neither makes nor takes L/R sides, have side effects.
The GRACE of our Lord J-->C with you-->all. Amen.

I think each person figures out the meaning for their own life. I do not think God has some specific plan for each person. The meaning of my life is to teach people to not take things so seriously. To show people that its cool to smile and be happy and relax and not sweat the small stuff. If I can get a few people to chill out and enjoy their own lives as much as I enjoy mine then that's meaning enough for my life. :)

Well, no, there doesn't HAVE to be a meaning to life. But if there wasn't, what's the point? I prefer to think that there is. It makes more sense and living easier. If there was no meaning, then there would essentially be no God, except perhaps in the deist view of things... you could branch off all sorts of ways with this question.

Without meaning, life would be something of a pointless, hopeless endeavor. Live a short while then die.
Personally, I like to think of this life as being a temporary assignment.

I would depressed if there were no meaning to life.
I think there needs to be meaning to life. What would be the point of getting up everyday? Just to live is the answer, of course. However, that's not enough for me.

No..there doesn't have to be any meaning to life...
Ergo...it would be a meaningless life...and as it has no meaning, it can no longer have any purpose...which means ambition really is a waste of anyone's time, also means that with no purpose, there is no direction....and not just that..without meaning, there can be no hope as hope based on meaningless is just optimistic wishful thinking...
So I ask you...aren't you glad that life has meaning?
