3 1/2 years ago a doctor diagnosed me as being asthmatic because i had a bad cold with a wheezey chest. since then i have had no symptons of this let alone a cold and i have also had it resolved 7 months ago. because of this (what i feel to be a false diagnosis) i have missed out on a few employment opportunities and thats why i want to know if it's possible.

talk to your doctor he/she will be able to tell you if it is possible and if it is they should tell you how to go about doing it

It is not allowed to be removed but, your doctor can put a note saying that although you were diagnosed as being asthmatic, you no longer present any symptoms of asthma.

Also when you are filling your application forms for employment, you don't have to put it there, the only way that they would look into it, is if asthma would affect your work, in which case, they would give you the chance to explain and be tested for it. Good luck

I don't know if you can erase part of your medical record, I wouldn' t think you could. But you say you had the false diagnosis resolved so notes should have been added to your medical record stating that. As for job applications you don't need to declare that you are asthmatic if your doctors have now confirmed that you are not.

I don't believe you can have any of your medical record erased. Some of it my now be irrelevant or an inactive problem, however you never know what may happen inthe future when a physician or nurse may need to know this. Especially with asthma, this can occur only when a trigger is near you. As yours seemed to be a bad cold, you never know when you may get one of these again! I don't know for def, but I've never heard different.

You should be able to get it changed- I know of a client who did just that when making a personal injury claim. The first thing to do is approach your GP and ask their advice and if you are not asthmatic then they should be able to make some amendment to your records.

Yes and (with a small no)

Generally under privacy legislation you have the right to see your medical record. You can then ask a medical expert to correct it. In many places you can have access to it restricted (eg, if you were a drug user).

However, the medical expert has the right to keep this information on their files. After all it is a record of his interaction with you. So he has a right to keep it if needed.

i dont think you can have it erased but if you go to your drs they can re-asses you,
my husband had asthma since he was a child and his dream job was to be a fire fighter, unfortunatley they wouldnt touch him, he went to his dr and explained this and they said as long as he hadnt needed to use his inhaler for a year and is nolonger taken his preventative inhaler, or had any repeat prescriptions for them then they can put that down on his records as "grown out of his asthma" obviously he had to have a medical aswell, but all is well now.
it sounds like your dr was a bit quick off the mark to diagnos asthma straight away.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do

Why don't you discuss this with your GP. He's the obvious person I think.
