God created Adam and Eve. They were his 'children'.

Mary, Jesus' mother, was therefore a descendant of Adam and Eve.

God impregnated Mary (His own descendant).

Does that explain how Jesus could perform so many tricks?

Tony - I never said it wasn't offensive.

But if you find it offensive then you find Christianity offensive, as I am only questioning the religious stories.

Dave_uk - Exactly, I would be. But then again, I don't follow this argument.

Raven - Even todays magicians couldn't do the tricks that the Bible said Jesus could do.

Dewcoons - Of course there were sexual relations in the conception of Jesus. He was in human form therefore came from a fertelized egg. It HAD to be in order to be a human birth. And since Jesus had the genetic makeup of a human but the psyche of a deity, then DNA from both God and Mary must have mixed

drntti - very informative answer. thank you. But can I just ask one thing...How come God allowed Hebrew writers to leave out women? So what if it was customary, the Bible is the word of God is it not?

Iron serpent - "What if a doctor had a daughter who was infertile and he carried out IVF on her, would that be incest?"

I would assume that the doctor wouldn't be using his own sperm or DNA. If he did then yes, it WOULD be incestuous

The virgin Mary did not have sex with God, it was not necessary for God to have sex in order to create life. It is a misunderstanding of the story.
The angel was sent to carry the message that she was chosen, not to impregnate her.
The Genesis story says that Adam was made in God's image, it implies that initially Adam did not need a mate as God does not have a mate. When God recognises Adam's need for companionship ( a need He had Himself) removes a significant portion (rib is a mistranslation) of Adam and creates a counterpart Eve. As far as invisible daughters, it was customary for Hebrew writers to omit daughters from geneology. Women were not considered important in ancient times unless they managed to do something noticeable.

**I believe the Bible is the Word of God given to man, while I believe that it is Truth I also believe that you can see the effect of it being written by man's hand. I read an argument between two theological writers, one said to consider the architect who designs a building with stain glass windows. He argued that God's word was like the white light that passes through and becomes colored, changed by the glass, no longer pure white light. The other replied to that, realize that the architect knew ahead of time what color would come out of the other side. This is how I see it, God knows man will affect the Word to some extent but He decides what color it will be. I hope this explains why I can see it being acceptable to believe that male writers of the time could choose to omit female writers because it was the custom of the time.

There wasn't any sexual contact because Mary was a virgin when Jesus was born so how can it be descirbed as incest?

----------

Link - The angel Gabriel visited Mary and told her that she would give birth and that his name would be Jesus. Again, no sexual contact and no incest.

------------

Billy S - The Bible says that Adam and Eve had sons and daughters. I think they would have been fairly visible.

-------------

What if a doctor had a daughter who was infertile and he carried out IVF on her, would that be incest?

-------------

But according to your reasoning, it would be incest no matter who's sperm was used. Whether you believe we were created or we evolved, the laws of genealogy tell us that we all came from one human pair. So, we are all one big family. If you go back far enough, your parents will find a shared ancestor but they have not committed incest.

I cannot imagine that God would have used human sperm to impregnate Mary because everyone is imperfect. Jesus had to be born perfect so that his death would be a corresponding ransom to the perfect life lost by Adam. This would not be acheived with human sperm. If God created the Universe, would it really be so difficult to transfer Jesus life from heaven into the womb of Mary and keep it protected there until his birth?

I'm not a believer, but that's a pretty shaky argument. I think Adam and Eve would be considered stepchildren or adopted as they were not "physically" children of god but created.

Hmm, Eve was made from Adams bone so would have had the same genetic makeup as Adam.... Also isn't it strange that god created females of every species but not for man?

Hey, to all those of you out there, wait a minute! We're all here because of incest, whether by God or from Darwinian processes.... We wouldn't be here otherwise.

Firstly, who decides if incest is right or not? It's only a concept developed by us, advanced humans.....

We all evolved from chimps or whatever homo erectus or whatever other missing link.

Do you ever think that these low-intelligent life forms could really DEFINE incest, let alone decide to go against based it on higher moral grounds?

Or did they follow their instincts and tried to copulate with the opposite sex and multiply in order propagate the species?

In which case, did they or did they not shag their siblings?

I'd say they did, and they multiplied, and their babies grew up to do the same, and over millions of years, we were at last evolved enough to bring in concepts of morality, etc. to say that incest, which actually brought us here, is a SIN.

Now, to all those believers among you for the second part - God is non-human. He creates everything, and can make something exist from nothing in a flash (otherwise, he wouldn't be called the "Almighty" God - he who has all might.)

If i were God, in a position of power like that, i'd sure make statements to show my might.
Therefore wouldn't be in my advantage & a lot easier to create a fertilised egg inside a virgin woman, rather than actually come on Earth and shag one of my creations made from clay, me the perfect, pure and almighty God??? Do you think i'd need this kind of entertainment???

Come on you people! Wake up!!!

Lets face it you speak of Adam and Eve, their own children would have had to have been incestuous with their own mother to have populated the world and there for we are all incestuous as we are all descendants of them so we are all going to hell according to the bible and religion!

Okay....I guess you could have gone with the much more popular Adam and Eve's invisible daughters thing, but I guess this works....Yes, I guess in the way you've prefaced it, God is incestuous. In fact, he has set the precedent, so I think we should abandon the tired stigma on it. Who's with me?

God was incestuous from the get go, and I've received many violations for saying so. God the father screwed His Son, and made humans. I guess the son must of shat them out his @ss because only woman have wombs.

I am surprised we aren't all albino. the thought that the human race has descended from just two people is preposterous, and as for Jesus' tricks maybe he went to 'Hogwarts School of Magic and Wizardry' I'll check in my bible for any references to Jesus having the pseudonym 'Voldemort'
