I know there will be nothing there but i got a windows xp installion on a removable disk my friend got it for me. How would i install windows xp of the removable disk to my empty and formatted pc. (i haven't formatted my pc yet)

You would need some type of hard drive cloning software. Try out PING:

If the installation disk is a valid full version, not an OEM supplied one (Such as comes with pre-built Dell machines etc..), then when you re-boot the machine with the CD in the drive the Boot BIOS should detect the CD drive and start up from there. This should then initiate the XP install from the CD, then just go with the flow ...!! Good luck...!!

(Make sure you have the licence key for the installation..!!)

Why not just opt not to break the law and buy the software - then problem solved.

Or, if cash is tight, ask a friend to download a legitimate free operating system onto a CD. Many of the linux distros are free and better than Windows,

If you can plug it into Your computer with USB, try booting the computer fom the USB drive.

If it is a full copy of windows including boot software, it may go into the window setup screen for you to be able to install back to your C: drive

don't do it you will have loads of problems you need to get a copy on cd and it needs to be a full copy not an O.E.M copy you can pick xp up quite cheep now go to a computer far or buy second hand

You're liable to have lots of problems with Windows Activation!
