The motivation factor is probably pure hatred.

This is not going to be very PC, but “Psychology Today” magazine (Aug. 2007) noted that most suicide bombers are Muslim. The magazine blamed the phenomena on the Islamic tolerance of polygamy. Polygamy in Muslin countries, according to the article, created a class of young men of low social status who have no hope of ever getting married since most of the women were being married off to rich men, and thus there weren’t enough women to go around. It seems to be a fact that polygamous societies tend to make men violent. Combine that with the promise made by some religious leaders that any male martyr has 72 virgins waiting for him in the afterlife, and you have hundreds of desperate, lonely losers lining up to volunteer (“10 Politically Incorrect Truths About Human Nature”, p. 89, 92).

Why the United States? As the world’s only remaining superpower, are we the obvious target for an emasculated male, who is feeling small, to attack. Which seems more impressive and courageous, to attack the fire breathing dragon that everyone is afraid of, or to attack the neighbor’s dog? Everyone wants to prove his courage, and public visibility, by attacking the superpower, instead of attacking a small regional power. You get global coverage by attacking the U.S.

Besides, they can always use the excuse that the U.S. backs Israel.

Many would say "support for Israel", but that could not have been a factor when supporters of Islam first attacked and conquored non-believers in Arabia and then used the sword to invade the Holy Land, Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt, parts of Africa, India and Asia, and parts of Europe.

Even today "support for Israel" can't be an excuse for Islamic attacks in Indonesia, Thailand, Sudan, the Philippines and Nigeria which are all neutral countries that have nothing to do with supporting Israel and are not themselves attacking Islam or Muslims.

And I'm sure neither of the two opposing Muslim sects who are bombing the heck out of each other in Iraq and Palestine are supporters of Israel either!

The real reason in each case is probably their belief that they are justified in using any means to force the whole world to submit to their brand of Islam and they invent different excuses depending on which Country, racial or religious group they are waging their 'holy war' against.

Foreign relations.
I agree that other factors come into play, such as young men in a poor society with nothing else to do, falling under the commands of a seemingly pious man who's paycheck comes from whatever politician is popular at the moment, lack of emotion or consideration for anything, etc. It all varies with each person. However even in all of that, the poor foreign policies that we conduct give them a major "excuse" in their eyes. If we can help fund the people that are killing them, support the rulers in their countries that are overly oppressive to their people, and declare war on countries that had nothing to do with the reasons our commander in chief gave, then in their eyes, we deserve the same in return. With better foreign policies, what reason would they have to want to harm us? I'm not blaming the US, don't misunderstand. I'm a proud American Muslim. But really, if we were to adjust our foreign policies to be more just and fair, what other excuses would terrorists have? Jealousy because we're a richer country? Highly doubt it. Envious that we have more freedoms? Maybe, but not to the point of harming innocent people. I'm open to other ideas, but I can't think of anything else that affects them and makes them want to harm us as much as our foreign policies.

Randy G: while I agree that proving oneself may have a lot to do with some of the things people do, polygamy is certainly not a reason for terrorism, lol. Maybe in a joking manner, but not realistically. Even in a land where a man is permitted up to 4 wives, it is very rare. The Quran commands that if a man cannot deal justly between his wives (ie not favor one over another, and treat them equally), then only one for him. Because so many men realize that they cannot love two women equally, or cannot afford more than one home (bills included), they stick with one. I don't think there are many statistics out on polygamy in Muslim countries, but try searching if you can. That article is bunk.

Number reason is our support of Israel. And the fact that Israel displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.
And therefore they hate all Jews.

Second is power and control an issue where they see the US as the nation that wishes to have some say in their countries affairs.

Third is the Islamic religion does not condone the "values and morals" of the "West."

Fourth, the US and all non-Muslims are viewed to be infidels which means we are 1, not to be trusted, 2, allow abortion, 3, accept homosexuality, 4, have no respect for their religion, in general, 5, allow women to have rights that they believe they shouldn't have, 6, view Islamic States as terrorist states, 7, wish to insert democracy which doesn't fit in to a Islamic form of government, 8, etc.

Because America is not a Muslim Nation, & Muslims has always said everyone convert to Islam Or die, Litlle did they know that when 9/11 happened, they thought we would sit by & try to talk to them, Hey we are talking to them, You remember all those Bombs we sent right through their front doors from a distance of 200 miles, They thought the USA would not do anything, Will we finish the job, No, We just cleared it enough for Isreal to do the rest. The Muslims just woke up a Sleeping Giant, as Japan did in WW2, Do you think we like using Nukes, No, But this nation is the only nation that use Nukes in WW2, & it stopped the war. We can make WW2 look like a childs toy now. Muslims listern, we will never convert to islam. Every nation in the world hates the USA except Isreal, But just let some natural disaters or some kind of coup happen & guess who they call on, Yes the USA

Their lives of the minority extremists are ruled by skill of religious ideals and definitely one of those ideals is that Islam is the only genuine faith. All non Islamic persons and worldwide places are common interest for attack and since the US and the united kingdom are prominent non Islamic worldwide places that are often gave the impression to be anti Islamic there's a great form of bitterness and hatred in direction of them. interior the critiques of the extremists they're the infidel and could be destroyed in any respect expenditures.

From their point of view, America foreign policy leads to attacks on Muslims, unfairly favours Israel over the Arabs, leads to occupation of Muslim lands by American or American-allied forces (first Saudi Arabia, then after 9/11, Iraq and Afganistan and Somalia), and America supports unpopular and corrupt dictatorships and regiemes in Arab and Muslim countries. Osama has offered a truce to America if America will withdraw its forces from Muslim lands, stop being unfair to the Palestinians, and leave the Muslims alone, but America has rejected that offer of a truce.

I believe it is caused by America's interference in the Middle East as well as America's support for Israel. I base this on the fact that the countries that are attacked by al Qaeda - America, Spain, UK, are or were at the time of the attack involved in the Middle East. But you don't hear of Japan, Norway, or Switzerland being attacked, do you?

The reasons vary per person; however;
1. Not only muslims have demonstrated /rioted against America over the years.
2. The beast of Rev. 17 is the USA.
3. Many nations seem to go by purity rules; whereas USA currently goes by 'majority rules'. (Ever been part of a minority, but perhaps the minority was right)?

1. The many years of american meddling in the foreign affairs of their countries.

2. They also see that americans support israel who have thrown away palestinians from their homes to make space for more israelis and they are constantly aggravating arabs.

3. They also see the kind of culture that americans have as being degrading to human dignity because it tolerates things like sexual variances, early teenage sexuality, the mafia, the breaking down of morals etc.

Also, almost all of the bombers being from the middle east, and NOT from any other muslim country in the world like Malaysia or Indonesia proves further that the American foreign policy has caused much hatred in the Middle East.
