If it is that bad,you should see your family doctor.Like you,I was really nervous, but at a much younger age,and my doctor gave me a mild sedative. You may have a lack of self confidence.Whatever you do,DO NOT start smoking or taking unprescribed medication. You will probably get past this.17 is a very scary and trying time, but you have your whole life ahead of you.I wish you luck.

How about exercise?
After a good work out it naturally produces a chemical in your body called endorphins which give you a "natural high" and excercise does relax and de-stress you.

At 17 , I assume your in fairly good health so at least 1/2 hour - 1 hour a day of intense exercise will definately mellow you out-
(without the need to "smoke- sumpin")
I mean do you really think using a drug or chemical will make you better or less stressed?
Don't dumb yourself down with drugs,It will just make you lazy and stupid.

Here are some stress reduction health benefits of exercise:

Helps lift mood.
Reduces stress -
Thanks to chemicals released in the brain during exercise, you may find feelings of anxiety, depression and mental stress melt away during a workout.
These same body chemicals may even reduce pain and induce feelings of happiness and well-being.
Greatest improvements seem to come after weeks of regular exercise, so stick with it!

Bolsters the immune system. Regular, moderate activity benefits the immune system, which may mean fewer colds, viruses and infections for you.

Boosts self-esteem.
Meeting a challenge, improving health, looking better, feeling stronger, meeting new people... regular physical activity can increase self-esteem in many ways.
You can do it!
Is fun! If exercise seems like a grind, you just haven't found the right activity. Step aerobics or abdominal crunches may not be your style,
so try
kick boxing
martial arts
BMX
intense skateboarding
even drummining

find something that get's you off yer butt away from the putter

Good Luck

A better medication is learning how the mind works. There is new data out now in time for the present and future stresses. It's getting in touch with the intuition, the much more powerful mental tool then our reasoning. Reasoning isn't as strong as emotions so study or looking into emotions and emotional intelligence is a must. I have listed free sites and material for the mind shift going on in my favorites. You can look up other questions on the subject here and information on the web. Basically we get bogged down because we think our thoughts are all we are. Actually we only have thoughts and feelings and the 'I' is what is observing. We have to realize that as we need to get back from our thoughts and feelings and become the objective observer. It's a more logical, scientific position. Descriptive word are also more accurate, judgmental one are emotional and opinion. The more powerful mind deals in pictures, is not emotional but absolutely objective, positive, loving and has all our happy drugs and painkillers designed for us. When we are in that mindset we connect, work in harmony with the brain, body and emotions and our genius to handle anything the future or present can throw at us. We are all emotionally immature and the child in us can't cope without more information and some endorphins, natural morphine made for the body and mind. Our thoughts, reasoning and 'logic' kill it. Positive thoughts and images is good mental exercise.
