I'd like to keep the bread in a bread box (because the fridge tends to dry it out a bit and make it tougher). However, I live in a warm enough climate that mold grows on my bread very quickly. So I put bread into the fridge after the first day. It keeps longer and tastes fine (especially if warmed or toasted).

I don't use the bread box, because if I leave it there for one day or more it looses humidity quickly and it will be fragile or dry which will make it not easy to make sandwiches and when I try to cut it it will break into pieces.

When I buy small quantity of bread, I keep it in the fridge, it will stay soft and elastic and will be ready for use.
Also I can warm it up in the toaster.

Normally I purchase bread enough for a week or so.
I slice it and wrap it ((in adequate portions depends my number of meals per day and how many slices I eat with each meal)) and put it in the freezer.

Upon need, I take the portion I need, put it in the microwave for 1/2 minute and it will be fresh and ready for my use.

We were using about 3/4 of a loaf and then it was after the expiration date. I got tired of wasting all that bread! Now we keep all the bread in the freezer- just put the loaf in there with no extra bags or anything. Take out 2 slices as needed and put it the microwave on High for 15 seconds. No difference and we're not throwing out any more bread.

If the amount of bread can be all used within 3-4 days you can keep it in a bread box. but if it is more than that you should separate it into 2 parts; put one in the freezer and keep the other in the bread box..

If you go through bread fairly quickly then a bread box is fine and the bread will taste and feel fresher. Refrigerating your bread will extend the "life", especially if you use bread with little or no preservatives (organic breads), but loses some of its freshness taste and feel.

I don't go through bread quick enough (unless I make my own) so I start off keeping mine in a bread box for the first couple days and then move it to the refrigerator.

I keep my bread in the fridge. It really seems to help it stay fresh longer - especially in summer months. Also, I don't eat a lot of bread, so I split the loaf and freeze half and keep the rest in the fridge. Keeps me from throwing out a bunch of moldy bread......

Box for sandwich bread (soft wheat), fridge or freezer for bread used for toast (rye). The fridge tends to dry bread out otherwise, but if it's for toast it doesn't matter.

I make my own bread, which has no preservatives in it, but does have butter in it - thus, it goes bad rather quickly. I keep half the loaf in the freezer and the other half on the kitchen counter in a bread box. Refrigerating bread makes it go stale faster because modern refrigerators have dehumidifiers built in.
