Brother that is where there has been a big divide in what we call,"the church."
Big Bands, Rock Music, Rap, tight clothes, barely any clothes, ALL in the church house!
I had problems with my kids for a while over these things and there were times I caved and compromised.
Remember this verse:
2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
The falling away has been taking place for some time now, right before our very eyes.
The church has become worldly, and the world just keeps getting worse. But he that endures to the end, the same will be saved.

Yes. No doubt we are called to be holy. Holiness is a process and all believers must be pursuing it. But we are all in different places with our walk with God so we must show mercy to one another. We are not perfect, that is why we are saved not by our own righteousness (which is as filthy rags, Isaiah 64:6) but by the righteousness of Christ.

Have you read "the pursuit of holiness" by Jerry Bridges? I highly reccommend it.

The big question is what holiness are you talking about. We are holy in God's eyes, because of what Jesus has done. That is how we'll get to heaven. Other than that there is also our personal holiness, which is a journey that we are on, that will only end when we die or God comes to fetch us.

We need to be clear both about our status as holy people, and about the means by which we are to live holy lives. It is not any technique, pattern of life, habit, program or set of rules. The only way to live a holy life is to submit to the rule of the Holy Spirit who is present in our lives. This is another way of saying that we live by faith in the Son of God (Gal 2.20). We not only trust him for salvation and holy status, but also trust his Spirit as the one who can direct our lives in a way that pleases God.

Holiness in practice is not merely the absence of sin, but it is the presence of the holy character of God, flowing forth from us, and affecting those we live amongst. It is like salt, like light, it purifies, and exposes, and is opposed. It is a powerful thing. This power of holiness only comes from people who are humbly submitted to doing the will of the Holy Spirit within them. It is a moment by moment reliance on the direction of the Spirit of Jesus and obedience to the word of Jesus.

If by "called", you mean that a book has some passages written in it that say people should be holy, then the answer is yes.

But I should think if god actually wanted something from us humans, he/she/it would find a more reliable way of informing us of he/she/it's requirements of us than using an old book of unclear meaning and authenticity.

Every one in holy or pure deep inside. Dirt is on periphery. If a diamond is covered by dirt. That does not mean its not diamond, but its not recognized as diamond.

Every one is same deep inside, only degree of dirt differ on periphery.
