When you buy a freeview Television or Box, You can get the Shop assistant to do a postcode search to find out the signal strenght within your area. They will advise you on the type of areal you need (if you need a new one at all)
In a high signal area, you can watch Freeview on a standard aerial.
We live in a low signal area so we had to buy a high quality aerial

As a measure to go by when it comes to Freeview boxes, if you're able to watch Channel 5 on regular TV, then you should be able to receive Freeview.
Always check Freeview's postcode finder first and then with your local electrical retailer.
Surveys start from about £30 and a new aerial will cost about £80. The Confederation of Aerial Industries (CAI) or the Independent Digital Standards Commission (IDSC) can give you details of members who operate in your area and guarantee their work.

Out TV aerial is about 15 years old - we can get around 70 Freeview channels, crystal clear.
Don't waste money on a new aerial, unless your analogue reception is poor. You won't notice an improvement with digital otherwise.
