I am a recently commissioned Ensign in the US Navy and want to make sure I follow protocol at the O-Club. Please let me know some of the things I should and should not do there around the old timers.

DO NOT walk into the Bar covered.

DO NOT place your cover on the Bar.

DO NOT slap a Command coin down on the bar unless you are willing to buy a round for the entire bar( If you slap a coin down and everyone else at the bar follows suit, YOU are buying. If you slap one down and someone at the bar fails to do so, THEY buy)

DO NOT get stupid and make a fool of yourself.. while in uniform, make it one or two drinks period. NEVER drive after drinking..even one drink. wait the hour or two or find another way back.

DO be polite and respectful to the old Guy sitting at the end with the WW2 ball cap on, even if he does want to talk your ear off about his exploits back in the day.

If somebody buys you a round, return the favor.

Just remember, while it is technically OK to get a little silly at the O-Club.

People do remember what goes on there, and it can and will be held against you later on.

If you want to act like a fool or get drunk, do it in your quarters, or go into town and rent a hotel room.

Also remember, while at the bar in the Club, protocol is a little loose compared to normal times.

But a Colonel is still a Colonel.

So watch your mouth and don't let it run away with you.

Just be courteous.

Oh, not sure about Navy but with AF clubs if you put your cover on the bar and someone catches you, they'll ring the bell and you'll be expected to buy the bar a round. I think it goes with your wallet as well.

Does the Navy do the whole coin thing? If so, make sure you always have a coin on you. If someone coins you and you don't have one on your person, you again will have to buy that person a round and possibly the whole bar.

Make sure to turn your cell phone off. If you get a call from the Mrs (or anyone perceived as the misses), you are buying for the whole bar.
