Hi all, I recently purchased a portable DVD player, the unit is powered by the cars cigarette lighter and when the engine is running I can hear engine noise. I believe it is engine noise because the pitch changes as the revs increase. Wondering how do I remove this noise? Is there anything I can do at the cigarette light power source? If the unit is directly connected to the battery I can still hear the noise but not as bad. Thanks for your time!!!! PS the vehicle is a current VE Commodore Omega.

Alternator noise whir that gos up in pitch. Can be mostly eliminated with a capasistor and choke coil. What I would do is find a Auto Radio shop and ask if they can clean up the alternating current noise from your cigarette lighter power supply. Don't forget to get your alternator tested there might be a bad diode making that noise. Alternative would be a car starting jump box with a power socket just recharge it before the road trip.

The oil in the sump is sucked into the oil pump, the oil pump forces the oil into the engine. The first place the oil goes is the main bearings of the engine, after the mains the oil then travels round the rest of the engine. In other words the main bearings produce the oil pressure in the same way that water in a hose pipe can be pressurized when you put your finger over the end of the pipe. From the sound of what you have said I suspect that the main bearings on your engine are damaged resulting in both the noise and the oil pressure warning light coming on. Unfortunately you will need either a complete engine re-build or a re-conditioned replacement engine. Ja.
