If it says "Quartz" on the face or the back, that is usually the sign that there is a piezo-crystal inside.

A lot of 'high end' watches, especially Swiss-made watches are still the old-fashioned wind-up type with springs and gears inside. The Swatch would be one exception -- they generally have quartz crystals.

no analog wrist watches run on springs. some you have to wind, others autowind via a weight that spins around when you move your arm up and down.
