How can god reveal himself to me? It seems logical to me that if I seek and I don't get a response that I should assume that god might not exist and live life the way I want to. I'm never going to be totally convinced that god exists unless i see some proof. why don't angels come to people today like they supposedly did more often in bible times? I want confirmation god exits?! How can I get it? Any ideas besides read my bible and pray?

You don't have the characteristic sarcastic undertones of many questions like this, so I am assuming you are sincere.

I can only think of one instance in scripture where someone asked God for a specific sign, and God granted it (Gideon, in Judges 6 or 7 if I remember correctly). God simply doesn't work that way. Angels didn't show up on request--they came when they wanted to come. Miracles were handed out by the miracle worker, and were not usually requests.

I had a friend going through some hard times, who kept asking "Why does God keep doing this to me?" I asked her "Why should God look out for you... what are you doing for him?" She took it to heart and got her life back on track, and within a day her entire life had taken tremendous steps forward.

Even believers have trouble hearing God sometimes. Here's a song which I think may help explain it better:

If you really are seeking with all of your heart, you will find him. The best advice I can give is ask someone else--in person, who can actually talk with you and carry on a conversation, answering your questions as they come up. You can see that this is not the place, since you will get so many divergent answers it will only make you more frustrated and distant. Go to a church and talk to someone.

I wasn't convinced for a long time either and I can honestly say that most people who "seek"... Seek the image and action of the Biblical God as it is defined by his Followers. People expect to "talk in tongues" or to see an angel or suddenly be healed of some sickness. I have yet to see any of these things... many claims, but no evidence to back it up. I don't see that as God doesn't exist (though I did for a long time)... I see it as all of these other people who claim to experience this God in the exact same way as others as either lying about it or they have talked themselves into experiencing what others tell them they SHOULD experience in order to be a "True" whatever.

I can't tell you what to do other than you really need to get rid of the ideas OTHER people have given you... don't expect an angel to pop up out of nowhere to give you a sign... it doesn't work that way.

Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in hearth for the shall see God.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the word was God.
I can't remember many else but it also said about the holy spirit live in you and guide you. So maybe not literally "see" God, but those who believe and seek Him has gotten quite close to Him

God reveals himself in different ways. It's good that you are reading your bible and praying! God is always spontaneous which isn't always what we want to expect. We think that there should be a textbook principle that God goes by. In reality, he does, but we want it to be less spontaneous and to fit into our terms of reality. One thing I can tell you to do is to wait and be ready to be led out of your comfort zone. Most people believe that if they wish hard enough in their own terms that God will appear in their bedroom and completely change their lives forever. In some cases it happens. Others, like yourself, have no answer. That's because you are not ready. But remember, you CAN get ready! Angels do come, God does reveal himself! But, it only happens to those who are willing to step out of their comfort zone. Try talking to God, not what we consider prayer, you know, "Our Father who dost greateth things...." but normal talk, like how you would talk to a friend. I have found that after I do this, an answer will almost always pop into my mind. Try those things first. If they don't work, don't give up hope. God works thru different ways with different people. Good Luck!

Why only bible, every other religion also say that God is to be experienced & not seen. Have u seen fragrance? Have u seen ur food getting converted into energy? & yet u believe it. Believe me, if u deserve, God will come 2 u. u need not go after him. I suggest u read a little on Hinduism.
Basically, all religions cover 2 aspects-Cosmology & Code of conduct. Meaning, how universe was created & how we should behave in the world. Pl. try to concentrate on these.

Why don't you read the Qur'an? The Qur'an is the final revelation and God (Allah) subhana wa ta'ala (Glorious and Exalted is He) promised to preserve his final message that is the Qur'an, which he has done because the Qur'an has remained unchanged for 1400 years, unlike the Bible.

"We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). [Quran 15:9]"

"Nay!, this is a Glorious Qur'an, (Inscribed) in a Tablet Preserved! " [Quran 85:21-22]

In Islam, we don't need any intercessors - we can have a direct relationship with God (Allah) subhana wa ta'ala (Glorious and Exalted is He). No need for a mixture (trinity), just purity of worship of God and God alone in our worship of our Creator.

"Allah! There is no god but He,-the Living, the Self-Subsisting, Eternal. It is He Who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion (of judgment between right and wrong).
[Qur'an 3:2-3]

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Allah! There is no God but He,
the Living, the Self-subsisting, the Eternal.
No slumber can seize Him, nor sleep.
All things in heaven and earth are His.
Who could intercede in His presence without His permission?
He knows what appears in front of and behind His creatures.
Nor can they encompass any knowledge of Him except what he wills.
His throne extends over the heavens and the earth,
and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them,
for He is the Highest and Most Exalted.
Allah, the Most High, speaks the truth."
[Qur'an Surah al-Baqarah --- Ayat Al Kursi (The Throne Verse) 2:255]

Hope this makes sense insha'Allah (God willing).

Salam (peace).

The bible says that if we seek god with all our heart and ask him to reveal himself he will. You sought genuinely with all your heart, as did I, and as do many others who God didn't reveal himself to.

This could mean:
1) God isn't there
2) God lies
3) The Bible lies

In any case, christianity is wrong (although I'm sure christians will blame you, me, and the other atheists for not doing it "genuinely" or "with an open enough mind").

Do not seek proof just for proof. That would have no meaning. Humble yourself. Admit that you do not know everything and that you want to learn. Remember the days of your youth when you were good and innocent. The days when you wanted to please your parents just because you felt like it and you were pure. Go back to this type of thinking and you may find the truth that you are looking for.

Why is it up to God to prove Himself to you? Is seeing REALLY believing ? Remember the lesson of the Israelites - you know the ones, Moses led out through the Red Sea into the Sinai Peninsula, under God's powerful directive? - The Israelites whined about God's ability to feed them and supply them with the necessities of life. Then, there was ol' "doubting" Thomas, a disciple of Jesus, who saw Him murdered on the cross, His body placed in a tomb, under Roman guard ? when Thomas saw Jesus (after the resurrection) he still was unconvinced of Jesus' death and had to physically place his very, own hands within Jesus' body cavity (stomach, at the right hand side), to believe it?
Plainly; you have it on personal experience. IF God wants you in His service, He will make it very evident to YOU - believe me - I promise you.

Sorry shooter, God sort of says that those who love the truth will seek him and to those he gives a gift of faith and through faith comes revelation and a personal relationship with God.
