I got the OCS contract; go to basic then OCS.
I was thinking about changing the order of my job preferences. MI is my first pick followed by Infantry. I was considering changing infantry to my first pick... A captain told me they only like to pick people for Infantry Officers that are really gunhoe about it and have it as there first pick...Anyway, when I asked my recruiter if we could change it prior to me leaving for basic he said dont worry about it b/c u will get the chance to pick them again at basic. Whats the deal here???? Is there truth to this or are my preferences written in stone??

Preferences can be changed subject to the discretion of the applicant and by the superiors.

Its never written in stone, but from just a few more years of experience I can tell you that you want MI. You may be promoted a little slower, but in the long run, it will save your joints later in life. If you really want Infantry, tell them you want it and you want to do air borne and air assault schools as well. Your recruiters job was just to get you in, now that he's done, he's gonna wash his hands of you, but talk to them when you get to basic to see if you can volunteer. In the military nothings written in stone. Like I said, your going to incur more injuries and deployments as infantry, and with MI you'll be able to get a much better job when you get out. Hope that helps

I must agree with Leroy. Your may get promoted faster as an Infantry officer but in the long run MI would be better for your body and career. The only exception may be if you are a straight "A" type personality....but be careful what you ask for.

In my past experience, that MOS is written in stone. But you can ask.
