In this modern society why do you think that the catholic church still denounces birth control? The world has too many mouths to feed as it is. Do you think the real reason is to keep the numbers of catholics up?
Please don't give me the usual c##p about abstention.
Thanks.

I refuse to have kids (of my own, I plan to adopt) and I am going to use birth control as it is my right to decide. This year my fiance is getting a vasectomy so we won't have a chance of getting pregnant. Plenty of married adults don't want kids, either because of personal choice or because they don't have the money or time. So no one can plead the "abstinence" trip, or the "populate the earth" trip...why not adopt a needy kid instead of making another one?

I think banning BC is just another thing to do to keep women barefoot and in the kitchen. It's just another form of control. YAY STERILIZATION! (For those that want it, or otherwise *deserve* it...)

Thank you for being one of the few males to step up to this.

The first thing God told man to do was to have children, so as to populate and subdue the earth, over which he gave man dominion.

You have to have people to occupy territory.

Furthermore, this was preceeded by a divine blessing.

Hence, the ability to procreate has always been considered a blessing from God, and one of the primary purposes of man's existence.

Through all he ages, God's opinion ... as well as that of the scriptures ... has never changed ... and neither has the teachings of the Catholic church.

In recent times, we have evidence that contraception also acts to cause massive numbers of "silent abortions" in those using the pill and IUD's, and that failed contraception of any type leads to massive numbers of medical abortions, as well.

All these things are an abomination in the eyes of God, and a crime against humanity.

The real question to ask is, why did all the protestant denominations sell out and change their teachings against birth control, during the last half of the 20th century?

And why are people so stupid as to be so easily convinced that having children is somehow bad for them, or bad for the world?

All this is an indication of a basic lack of faith in God.

This has a dual reason, of course it is to maintain a good supply of new religious followers but its other reason is probably even more important. The use of contraceptives raises sex from nothing but banal reproduction and brings it into the area of personal enjoyment. Doing this removes the fantastically powerful controlling factor of guilt from our most basic human need and no church is willing to part with the big stick it uses to beat its followers into line with. Human sexuality is a beautiful thing and making it seem dirty is a great way to turn it against us as a weapon and the church is a past master at doing this.

Christian morals are older than the need for birth control.

The church needs to stick to their preachers, otherwise they would admit they they were wrong, and that would put in danger all that constructed god stories in danger.

They cant just turn after hundreds of years saying that condoms are killing kids do a condom is evil. And sex is only allowed to reproduce and such. Anyway, slowly over time they
changing their direction, but yes, slowly.
They need to find and feed their believers with new arguments to justify everyhting they say and everytime they change their oppinion. They do it in a way, that believers wont figure. Easy: first they blind them :)

Morning Andy H. I actually don't agree with your comment that the world has too many mouths to feed. There is plenty to go around but people still starve because of man's greed and selfishness.
I don't think I can answer the rest of your q because I don't know enough about it and I don't want to annoy you with any crap.
:)

I think the Catholic Church is a little harsh for condemning birth control, but I would not openly oppose them on such a little matter. They can take whatever stance they want. It doesn't make them evil.

My guess is the main reason is because those in power aren't allowed to have sex at all, and they're pretty pent up.
