Many people want to escape from their cubicle-style careers and make a living in performing arts, whether it's acting or music or dance. But when you are old, serious schools refuse to admit you and schools that do admit are not usually serious. Is there a chance for a late-comer to make a name-and a living-out of performing arts? Please give examples. Peace out, love y'all.

I think so. First you could try some modelling agencies, they are always looking for people, old or young. If you are any good at writing music you could try writing jingles and submit them to advertising agencies.

Also, joining local Amateur Theatrical Groups in your local area is a way to start. And going to some kind of dance or singing classes.

If you are in an area where they make films, look for jobs as an extra on site. You may get noticed.

Off the cuff I can't think of any big names, but there are definitely some stars out there who only made it later in life.

It's never too late. Peace back to you. And good luck!

There are plenty of serious schools that admit older folks for acting...Stella Adler conservatory, The New School, Lee Strasbourg Institute, and there are plenty of private coaches as well.

As far as people who have "made it" after getting started late...thats tougher. Rodney Dangerfield, ummm, gosh I can't think of any others. I think most of those people are more character actors rather than stars. The types that you see in a lot of movies or shows but always as a sidekick or secondary character.

If you absolutely love it, then you should persue it. If you are going into it because you want to get rich/famous etc. you're going to have a hard time.

Look at Morgan Freeman. He started out on "The Electric Company" in the '70's. He wasn't a spring chicken then, and look at his success.

It's possible but highly unlikely in my opinion.
Acting might be your best bet...not a musical instrument or physical activity.

Your best bet would be acting. There are always roles for all ages, if you are good enough!
