Is it true that it could be lack of iron? It's not an allergy to anything and i haven't changed my washing powder or soap or anything like that but it's driving me mad. Oh and i haven't got any pets either. x

A build up of certain foods can make you itchy - ask yourself if you are eating too much of something and you will have your answer. Good luck.

I'm itchy too, not all the time but once I start to scratch in one place I can't stop and my skin comes out in weals. I went to the doctors some years ago and he prescribed antihistamines, I don't think they made much difference but over the years it has improved and now if I do feel the need for a scratch I try to rub my skin instead. I tried the change of soap powder and I've had the same thing with or without pets and I've had my blood count checked and that's ok too - I suppose I just like a good old scratch!

Sometimes you might touch somrthing and there will be an allergy on it.An allergy can come and go at anytime that is why there is no cure only temperary relief from medicine. I woke up this morning with an awfull itchy hand ,and dont even know why I did not touch anything I that I know of to cause this when I took a claritin it went away.

i had this problem a few years ago, the doctor told me it wasn't an allergy because i wasn't responding to his treatment of antihistamine
i was told i was a mystery, naturally itchy and should just put up with it
in the end it did turn out to be a very unusual form of allergy to travel vaccinations which had unbalanced my metabolism
i went to a very reputable homeopath who successfully resolved the problem in a few weeks (after years of miserable itching)
i have heard that some liver problems, typhoid or typhus (can't remember which) and iron deficiency can cause itiching
i would try a natural health practitioner if i was you but make sure you choose a 'real' one and not a week end dabbler
good luck

How old is your mattress? An old mattress could be infested with bed bugs, which feed on you at night, and that could be making you itchy (not a nice thought, I'll grant you, but a possible explanation never the less).
Even relatively new mattresses will have some bed bugs, but the older they get, the bigger the colony of the little parasites.

any welts, bite marks, bumps? If so, it may be the mysterious itch mites that have been encountered by Midwesterners over the past few weeks.

Has this been a recent development, or is it chronic?

You might have really dry skin, you might have poor circulation, you might have a neurological disorder

The best way to find out is to see your doctor. If it's an allergy, they'll have to do tests to find out exactly what you're allergic to.

Go to your GP who will take a good history from you, examine you, and possibly do some investigations (tests). The causes of itching are legion...from psychosomatic problems to cancer.
