I really didn't want to work today....but I couldn't call in sick...out of sick days....I tried to change shifts; but no one could, except for a girl who has a crush on me...but she was on vacation, but she told me would drive 3 hours so I could have the night off....um...thanks, but I am not that much of a jerk....well maybe I am...but not tonight.
Anyways, with about 5 hours of sleep int eh last 48 hours, here I am at work...coffee cups, and energy drinks empty on my desk....can't stay awake though....I keep wanting to fall asleep..and for an hour I did....
How do you stay awake?

Careful with the energy drinks. I've recently seen two different stories on fark about caffine overdoses that were almost fatal. The first was some 17 year old girl who drank something like 18 shots of Espresso over ice. She was in the hospital for a couple of days.
The second was a guy who drank 8 red bulls. He actually had a heart attack.
A good way to stay awake is to stand or sit at the desk on your knees. Chair=sleep
I get to my work 2 hours and 30 minutes early everyday
(no, I don't have a choice in this). My cell phone wakes me up exactly 15 minutes before my shift starts.
Power naps only work for some people. What I do if I really need one is set my cell-phone alarm as a backup and fall asleep and wake up every 3 or so minutes to check the clock. Trust me your 15 minute break will feel like an hour.

Lol u can't stay awake when u really really don't feel good atleast health wise and if at all u were just bored and felt sleepy then atleast in my case I watch movies or if ur at ur workplace then take a small walk or munch on a apple and just so that I don't literally bang my head I wud take a very very short nap say approx 5-10 mins it's quite refreshing thing, infact the best way to keep awake for long time is to take short brief naps in between. :D I've done that myself lol that too when i was going to a class of biology and i was feeling so so so sleepy that my sir wud end up teaching right in front of me while i was dozing off like a lazy bum LMAO one day i just woke up with a jerk and my sir did look at me and i just gave him a smile lol he never said a word man unbelievable lol maybe he too knew how he felt when he was a kid lol.
But after the naps i took i used to be wide awake and feel utterly refreshed.

Hi there,
After reading your question sweety I tend to think your a little bit more than tired but I am afraid to tell you what I think.Energy drinks and coffee can only do so much for you as I really think ...{.get ready}...that you are in a depression and just don't know how to cope with it.I may be way off base sweety,so just ignore me if I am o.k.?But if I am not, there is help out there for you.....good luck and take care.Annette

honestly, when i was going on 72 hours with less than 5 hours of sleep (mixture of finals and insomnia due to stress) i used Monsters. they are an energy drink that worked wonderfully, but don't forget about power naps if your job permits it.
close your eyes until you feel like you are just about to fall asleep, but don't actually do it. Usually it takes about 20 minutes sometimes 30 for a power nap, but i find that between classes it did wonders for me.

Being sleepy on the job is a roughy! I would always wet my face, drink caffine, focus!!! very hard to do.and if matters got worse, ask a co-worker to pinch you!

I occupy myself. When I pull all-nighters, I draw, or play games. Dont ever sit, or lay down when you are tired, you are likely to sleep. Wash your face with water.
