I know that Pork is haram (banned) And it not good for us to eat.

But when I hear Muslims talk about it, You would think they are talking about eating rat poison! It is said to be dirty filthy, poisonous, and much worse.

But it can't be that bad many none Muslims eat it all the time, and they are healthy!

It is just that we are not allowed to eat it, and it is better not to.
Is it necessary to trash pork just because it is not allowed. Shouldn't we just avoid it without pretending it is poisonous.

All this anti- pork stuff seems very exaggerated. There are worse things.
Jewish people also don't eat pork or shell fish but I don't hear from Jewish people saying all these comical things about pork. They just don't eat it (though I don't read Jewish forums, so I may be unware, and exactly the same thing is said)

Well this is the answer, from a question posed on islamic TV programme that I saw this week. The cleric answered the question by saying that there is no reason not to eat pork, it is just haram. It is to be seen as a test of faith, for there is no valid reason. It is just to be accepted, and followed.

It is nothing to with hygiene or health.

My fiance and I discuss this frequently cuz he's Muslim and I'm Christian and I eat pork all the time. He always says there have been studies done that show that pigs carry more viruses and illnesses than any other animal. I of course always disagree and tell him I've been eating it all my life and never got sick from it. He hasn't shown me any websites yet that document these alleged findings yet. Perhaps centuries ago they were unclean, but now the pork products you find in supermarkets come from pig farms where the animals are fed and cared for properly.

It is because the last breakfast of Buddha is cook from pig and when Buddha eat this food, he forbid another monk to eat it for some reason.
So some layman has an idea like "Ah! God forbid eating pig" and make it a tradition. This tradition spread to middle east and when the time pass by a millennium, people forgot why to forbid eating pig and try to speculate the forbid to it is because of the pig is unclean and one who eat the pig is unclean too, that is not correct.

It's something to do with cloven hooves, although I fail to see what difference that makes, it's the same for Jews. I think it stems from when there were no refrigerators, pork etc would go off quickly and give you food poisoning.I can't see why they couldn't salt it and make ham/bacon.
You're right, non-Moslems do eat Pork and are OK, but Moslems might blame our decadent behaviour on having consumed pork, I don't know..ask your boyfriend.

there are many theories about the origin of food taboos.

one of the most convincing says that if a religion proscribe a food eaten by neighbouring tribes then followers of the religion will be unable to sit down to eat with members of other religions.

since offering food to someone is one of the greatest and kindest acts of generosity among humans a food taboo stops your co-religionists from making friends with people who believe otherwise.

using this reasoning: the moslem horror of food which is not halal is really a horror of people who are not moslems. pork is dirty because the people who eat pork are dirty.

....

christianity is the only major world religion which has no food taboos. christians believe that everything which god made is holy.

the point is explained in detail at matthew 15:11.

Sister first understand that Allah has said in the Quran to eat from the lawful good things which Allah provided us with.Allah prohibits us from pork so we must stay away from it. Like Allah prohibited Adam (A.S) and his wife from eating from the tree in heaven. Now the tree in heaven was good or bad? We dont know the knowledge of Allah. Like wise as for pork is concerned Prophet (Peace be upon him) said in a Hadeeth that Allah has not kept anygood in things which He made Haram for us. So dont get bothered about others.
Jazakaalhu khair.

Because they are told to find it repulsive by a book, which was inspired by another book with the same rule, which may have made sense at one time.

The myths spread about pork now by those who won't eat it strongly resemble the nonsense said about tomatos by many "experts" in the early 19th century. We were assured in very scientific sounding terms that eating a whole tomato could kill an adult, that they were loaded with toxins and deadly acids.

There is nothing wrong with pork now, of course. We know how to keep and feed pigs, and how to store and cook meat.

Very few Jews keep to Kosher dietary laws any more. My roommate is Jewish and he eats more shrimp and pork than I do.

Jeff has a good point. Anything you say about pigs goes double for chickens, and I don't know of any dietary restrictions forbidding chicken.

Wolf: Pigs do not eat their own waste if properly fed and kept. And if eating something that eats waste is the same as eating said waste yourself, don't eat any vegetables. Do you know what they feed to vegetables?
And guess what you have in your temple at this very moment? That's right, you have waste in you as well.

My Ki: I would not eat a wild line-caught catfish either, but the catfish you buy in supermarkets are raised in artificial lakes (fish-farms) and grain-fed. Again, it is a matter of properly caring for your food.

I was rolling on the floor laughing at 412's answer. Scientifically linked with an overactive sex drive. Before I ask you for sources on that, may I point out that such a fact would make pork more popular than Viagra? And we all KNOW that a hyperactive sex drive is just dirty and evil, right?

It is Haraam, but yes it can be approached by muslims in a different manner than what you say....it is recognised as unclean but i would leave the exaggeration out of it.

Not a Muslim here. I've had Muslim friends when growing up and have noticed they have not eaten Pork. Didn't question it then. If you run across some good pork-chops which you care not to eat, send them my way, I won't complain :p
