Lambrussco... It's awesome... it's a sweet red wine, and not dry at all. I'm not sure how much it is in the U.S but in europe its about $20 a bottle, so it's not too terribly expensive.

Normally red wines are dry/not sweet but if you are looking for a sweet red try an ice wine. this wine is made after the grapes freeze and are crushed with little water.... concentrate, making a very sweet wine. Only downside is this wine is kinda expensive considering you get a smaller bottle and the alcohol content isn't extremely high...it is sometimes referred to as dessert wine because of its sweet taste...local wineries usually have there own ice wine or just ask at a spirits store

There is a style of grape called ruby cabernet that does produce sweeter styles of wine. Also a lot of the house varieties of Californian red are sweet. I would avoid Zinfandel and Petite Syrah though as they tend to be drier.
In France, probably the sweetest style would be Beaujolais, this is made from the Gamay grape, which tends to be lighter, and without spending too much money try a Beaujolais Village, serve lightly chilled.
Enjoy!

Try White Zinfandel. You can get it at practically any supermarket. Cost would normally be under £5.50 per bottle.
Only downside is that this type of wine (sweet red) tends to be low in alcohol. Not exactly a fast way to lose your inhibitions!

If you want sweet you should make up a jug of,
Tinto de verano,/ Wine of the summer./ Summer wine
1/2 and 1/2 of Rioja, red and lemonade, fanta type or clear,
in Spain it is made with casera/gaseosa.
Make over ice and put some orange and lemon slices in.
Its really nice, its not sangria, sangria is sweet and you can buy it in bottles.

Buy a bottle of Sangria and pour it into a glass container. Add all kinds of cut-up fruits like apples, cherries, honey dew, limes, lemons, grapes, watermelon, etc. Let it sit for a few hours in the refrigerator and you will have the greatest wine...we used to do this all the time...

Two of the best that I have found are Wild Vines or Arbor Mist Blackberry Merlot. They are quite good with red meats and are very reasonable on the pocket book.
