Kittens haven't had the bad experiences with dogs that many adults cats have had. As a result, they're very receptive to the idea of hanging around with dogs. And dogs, likewise, are not very likely to chase something that doesn't know it's supposed to be running from them in the first place! If your dogs aren't overly aggressive towards cats (chasing is one thing, trying to run them down to rip them to shreds is something else entirely), they'll probably respond with nervous tail wagging to start, and then gradually move into showing affection to the kitty.
If you make the decision to get a cat, you really should opt for a kitten. It's your safest bet for seamless pet introductions. If you try to adopt an adult, you may find that it will be more difficult. By no means impossible, perhaps, but definitely more difficult.

Get a big ol mean cat. The dogs will get knocked silly.
If you introduce them properly (slowly) they will be fine, really. But do watch them closly for a while.
I used to have a dog that played with my girlfriends cat. Or was it the cat who played? It was so funny watching them.

i don't think i'd take the chance unless you have somewhere you can put the kitten where it will be safe from the dogs when you aren't there to stop them
