You can't buy a riffle, but if you slow down the repeat speed on the keyboard you can certainly buy a Barrett. Or you can go with MacBros or one of the other 50 BMG rifles. Oddly, the idea caught on among civilian shooters before the military had an interest.

In a large number of states you can. As a matter of fact .50 cal BMG (Bromning machine gun)target shooting is growing in popularity.Unfortunantly if you live in California, you cannot own a .50 cal BMG rifle. Not even a single shot, which a lot of the competition rifles are. Our illustrious politicians in all of their infinate ignorance, consider it a combat weapon. Only people like Ms. Boxer, Ms. Feinstein, Ms Polusi and the former (thankfully) Mr. Dellums would take a single shot rifle into combat. What an assault it would be, loading 1 shot at a time.

In most States, Yes you can.
You would be amazed at what you can buy legally in most states as to weapons.

It was the farsighted wisdom of our forefathers that insured that privilege.

God bless our Tenacious forefathers that put the likes or Kings/Queens in check.

The only down side is, that a lot of shooting ranges are not set up to handle that big of caliber.
But there are a few ranges set up especially for the 50 BMG and its long range capabilities.

Unless your home state has a regulation barring the ownership of .50 BMG rifles, there is no Federal law forbidding private ownership of .50 BMG rifles.

As WWD said, civilians took a shine to .50 BMG rifles long before the military adopted them.

Sure can. The Barrett is not the only .50 cal. on the market. There is a very active .50 cal. shooting group that puts on various competitions, nationwide.

check www.rmfcsa.org.

They have links to events, shows, and can point you in the right direction if you really want to spend a few thousand dollars on the gun.

yes,
Check the laws in your state, most states don't disallow except the Kommunist Peoples Republik of Kalifornication.

I've got a buddy that is in a club that shoots 50s competitively.. The range they shoot at begins at 500 yard out to 1000 yards.

The caliber is not prohibited in the USA. Neither are semi automatic rifles. If the citizen can afford a Barrett .50 cal. and he can pass the background check he can purchase one.
