Why can F-1 and motorcycles run in the rain at higher speeds then the NASCAR wimps?

Running in the rain is about more than just tires. It has to do with the weight of the car, the horsepower, the size of the brakes and, as some else said, down-force. The cars would also need windshield defoggers and windshield wipers.

Goodyear just doesn't make a treaded tire for NASCAR. They are available but they are 10 year-old technology.

There is nothing "wimpy" about it. It just doesn't make sense to modify all of the cars and to have Goodyear develop an entire line of tires that teams would HAVE to buy just a couple of races every year.

It also makes no sense to compare NASCAR to F-1 or Club Racing. They are different. So even thinly veiled put-downs just make YOU look silly.

F1 cars and motorcycles are lighter and for F1 have much more downforce, road courses have run offs instead of walls, and the speeds are lower. Open wheel cars like the IRL and Cart also don't race in the rain on ovals. Perhaps they are onto something here.

Goodyear has not been able to make a durable rain tire for road courses either.

Have you ever seen a NASCAR set of tires? They race "Slicks", no actual tread. Get a car going 200 mph and see how you handle it, then mix in another 40 cars and put them all going about the same speed.....there you have your answer.

Calling them wimps, ummm let's see YOU get out there and race what they do for 4 hours or more! The NASCAR drivers don't get to stop and take a break and deal with temps of over 120 inside their car.

Yes F1 can run in the rain and good for them, but on a closed oval the centrifical force makes it not practical to run rain tires.
Thanks for your input on the matter and I'm sure others will have commits for you too.

they have tried treaded tires on them before (in controlled situations, not actually racing). they cant make one that keeps them on the track. you got 200mph, 3400 pounds. massive G's. good luck keeping them on the track. they barely hold on as it is with slicks. f1 and bikes can get away with it because of the much lower weight and downforce. and probably other things. im not some tire tech

nascar drivers are like babys, whine and cry until they get their way, even club racers race in the rain,

hello?????????? accidents happen, especially at 200 mph, and its bad on the brakes, its because they are smart and want to live to race another race.

Because their tires have no tread and its better racing than the F1 CRAP!
