Depends on:

1. The version of DOS
2. The version of Linux.

The earliest versions of DOS required only about 400k of RAM. I think the most modern versions require about 2 MB.

The lowest amount of RAM I've heard of Linux running in is 4 MB, with a command line. If you want a graphical interface, you need a lot more. Try Damn Small Linux if you have a really old computer.
