I dont think liking NASCAR or any type of racing makes you a hick. People who watch NASCAR were given a bad rap because for a long time it was a bunch of hicks watching each week. Another thing that makes NASCAR watchers look dumb is the fact that you can drive down the road on any give day and see an old beat up fors tempo with a Dale Earnhart Jr number 8 bigger than anything on the door. Thats dumb.

Of course I don't have "adversaries" but for me the most frustrating questions posted by non-Christians are ones asking us to logically defend out faith. If faith is a supernatural/spiritual thing, how can we logically explain it? How would you feel as a Pagan if people kept demanding that you use logic to justify everything you believe? I'm sure you've run into it before. It gets old fast. EDIT: I thought of another repeated dumb question I hate. It's "Oh, explain the following! *insert random out-of-context verse about eating babies or raping women*" If people would actually take a deep breath and read the entire book of the Bible, then pick up a commentary or history book and try to figure out what was going on and the time and what the specific verse is, there wouldn't be a problem. But they're not genuinely interested in an answer, they're just trying to make a point and make people look stupid. A "question" like that causes me to lose a great deal of respect for the person asking.

The word "hick" is a relative term.
In a rural area dotted with small towns, anyone who doesn't live in one of the towns is a hick.
If one of the towns is a little bigger than the rest, then everybody outside the bigger town is a hick.
It doesn't get any better as you move up the list by city populations in relation to geographical areas. A lot of New York City dwellers consider all other Americans hicks, yet I'm sure there are a lot of Parisiens who consider New Yorkers hicks.
Don't worry about it as we all know snobbery and bigotry are universal and some are quite proud of their snobbery and bigotry and display it to the world. The person who would use the term to stereotype as a general insult is only pigeon holing his/herself as a known bigot and the rule of thumb is, better to be thought of as a hick than a bigot.
In this hicks opinion, running from the term in relation to self is no less bigoted.
