Dear fellow Yahoolians I've just obtain my braces today and it's been a drag trying to floss my teeth with them on, so I am just wondering would a toothpick do fine without the need of stringed flossing?

i'm not sure about using a toothpick to floss, but your ortho should have given you a braces kit that includes:

toothbrush
floss
floss threader
wax
that brush to clean around the brackets
pamphlets on how to keep your teeth clean and other info

when i got my braces, i felt the same way. eventually you get use to it. it might hurt for maybe a week or so because your teeth are moving but the pain will subside.

even though it takes a while to floss my teeth, i use the floss threader. it's really handy.

GO TO THE DRUG STORE AND BUY SOME SUPERFLOSS. GENTLY GUIDE THE SHORT STIFF END BETWEEN THE TEETH UNDER THE WIRES AND FLOSS LIKE USUAL.
YOU CAN DO THIS OR THE SAME THING USING A FLOSS THREADER. THIS TAKES MORE TIME, BUT THE THREADERS ARE LESS EXPENSIVE.
