Honestly, baby will enjoy the wrapping paper more than the presents so I wouldn't spend too much money. 1 year olds like anything they can push. A walking toy, toy stroller or shopping cart, they also like the little bikes where they can put there feet on the ground and ride around. Blocks or Duplos (large legos) are great too. Books are ALWAYS good.

Hi, how about personalized books? Kids love to read/hear their own name in the storyline. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have lots of titles like Sesame Street, Ballerina Princess, Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Three Little Pigs, Mother Goose, Teddy Bear Land, Noah's Ark, Sports titles and so many more. Check it out - they're very reasonably priced, and make a wonderful, unique & special gift... It's something they can enjoy now and keep forever!! Good Luck!

If money is no object and you really want to give something of value set up a fund to help with the childs education and future. It's a gift that keeps on giving. It will relieve stress from the parents allowing them more time to love, nurture, and enjoy thier child. Security is one of the best gifts one can give.

If possible, have the toddler's family e-mail or mail you pix of him/her. Go to Kodak Gallery and make a leather bound photo book of goofy pix. You can even add captions or make up a funny rhyming story. The toddler will love looking at him/herself in the book and it'll last for a long time! If you can't get pix of him/her then take some of cute puppies, crying babies, and cool scenery and add cutesy captions using the toddler's name. I like the idea of personalized gifts plus it is a real book, just made by you!

The neighbours of my parents bought their son a car. They lived on a farm, so he had plenty of room to drive it. I think he is only just old enough to get his licence now.

On the flip side, if money is no object, the baby is probably going to get everything that opens and shuts. Have you thought about spending money to sponsor a child of your babies age and using that as a way of teaching about another culture, forming friendships, writing letters. See some of the links below as suggestions.

I have to agree with Niffer, kids love boxes. They also love butter bowls-they don't care about money. What you could do is buy them a savings bond put it in a card and ship a big box for them to play with. Savings bonds are great gifts and easy to give. My kids have racked up over 1000 dollars in bonds. Makes for a nice investment in their future.

Have their name painted on something that they can keep and pass on to their children... I just got back a small wooden book holder full of my old books in it. It has my name painted on it and osme balloons, it is now in my little girls room.
