Sri Ramakrishna was born Gadadhar Chatterjee in 1836 at Kamarpukur about sixty miles from Calcutta. His parents, Khudiram and Chandramani, were poor and made ends meet with great difficulty.
In 1863, at age 27, Ramakrishna took the first of two pilgrimages. His second pilgrimage took place five years later, in January 1868, visiting Kashi dham, Prayag and Vrindavan. It was during his second pilgrimage that he met and spoke with one of India's most truly remarkable holy men,
NOTE: There are four short references to Trailanga Swami in The Gospel of Ramakrishna. The longest, in Swami Nikhilananda's introduction, describes Ramakrishna's VISION of the Siva in Benares; "with ash-covered body and tawny matted hair, serenely approaching each funeral pyre and breathing into the ears of the corpses the mantra of liberation."
When Ramakrishna paid his visit to Trailanga Swami he later declared him to be a real Paramahamsa, a "veritable image of Siva." Ramakrishna also described the Swami as having taken a vow of silence, but also quotes him regarding the mind, so apparently he was not always silent (possibly writing responses).
Soon word spread about this remarkable man who was to become known as Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and people of all denominations and all stations of life began to come to him. He taught ceaselessly for fifteen years or so through parables, metaphors, songs and above all by his own life the basic truths of religion. He passed away in 1886, leaving behind a devoted band of young disciples headed by the well-known scholar and orator, Swami Vivekananda, followed shortly thereafter by a just as devoted second generation group.-

Namaste! It is easy for people to make a confusion between Deityes, Saitns, Gurus, Sadhus, Mahaatmas, Rishis, Munis, etc. and God because most of people do not know much about anyone of the above. When we know more about God then there is great benefit in that and the souls feel free. Also by kowing God to a greater extent we begin to kow more about His main creation like Krishna, Rama, the other Deityes and also Swami Ram Krishna Paramhansa.
There is a lot of differnece between God and any other soul. For example God uplifts the whole world - all the souls in the world, but He himself never becomes a human being that He would come and rule this world by sitting on a throne or taking the reward of His greatest charity. He just uplifts the world and takes nothing for Himself - He goes back to soul world. On the other side any Dharmesh Sthapna establishes his religion (which does not include all souls - not the whole world) and then he takes rebirth and sustains the religion he has created and takes benefit from that. Some become worshiped in a practical way: people adore them, bow down to their feet.... But God - The Supreme Soul - does not even have feet that someone could bow at.
This is so easy to understand, but most of the people don't kow this much even and this is the answer to your question.
In addition:
To know someone you may wish to ask what is that one's personality, how is that one like, what does he do and even where does that one rezide... In the same way to better understand God you may wish to know that He is the source of all virtues and powers and all beauty, He rezides in the world of silence, is of benevolent and benefactor nature and his occupation is to uplift all souls and the whole world.
When He starts doing His job the period known as ''Charti kala sarva ka bala'' (The stage of ascent which brings benefit to all) begins.
He is the Creator of all and all the rest of the souls, be it Deity souls or souls of Saints or Dharam Sthapnas, etc. are God's creation. Krishna and Rama are also God's creation and in fact they are amongst God's first creation. Being first means they are amongst the most elevated creation.

Anyone against idol worship is mistaken and ignorant about spiritualism. We need an image of God, a form to concentrate and meditate upon. We cant meditate on nothing. It can be light, sound, or any form -- human or otherwise -- but you ought to have something to concentrate upon. When we worship God as having a form of living being like us, we make an idol. That makes worship easy. Only the very spiritually advanced people do not need any form to meditate. For beginners the form is a MUST.

He was given this name because the spirit in him was supposed to be the same that existed within ram & krishna ....... i.e. a carnation of lord rama & krishna !!!!!
