It has been pouring rain here for 2 days and the kids cannot go outside. I have exhausted all of my resources and am after some new things for them to do. Something not too messy though. They and I are sick of video's as well and I'm not fond of them sitting in front of the box all day.
Any suggestions welcome!

Make some dough art. Go to the site below and you and the kids can find a selection of more than half a dozen types of home made play dough. They can help make it and then make their creations and then bake them. That site also has lots of other kids crafts on it too. When the kids are allowed to do crafts it helps them learn a lot more than how to get their hands dirty. They can make gifts for friends and for presents as well. My girls favorite things to make were called LUMPIES and they were made from dough art and you decorated them like people. I found a site with some photos of some that look like what my girls did years ago since they made their lumpies in the 80's. If you click on the different photos of them it will enlarge the picture into a new window so you can see them very clearly. You can get a good idea from these on how to do your own. Anything goes with a lumpy. We made a bride and groom for my brother and his bride when he got married and it was set on the table at the reception hall as a gift from my girls. Everyone had a good laugh. Good luck. It's raining here too.

I agree with the pp's ideas!

Some more ideas: Play parachute with the bed sheets (great when changing the sheets). Act out a favourite story or just acting as puppies (My children have puppy names when we play). Make jello jigglers using molds or cookie cutters. Read a novel ie:"Charlotte's Web", "The Secret World of Og" (with expression and character voices), Make cards or letters for family members and friends. Get a dvd from the library of dance or exercise and burn some steam! (hula dance, ballet, line dance, tai bo). Make crafts with yarn, glue, coloured paper, catalogue to cut up, ink stamps etc. Do a science experiment (ie: dropping raisins in ginger ale; playing with ice cubes as they melt, make a crystal garden, put carnations in food colouring)

Hope you guys have fun inside till the sun comes back!

* Find some old Halloween costumes or props, and have them come up with a play.

* Help them learn how to make certain foods... smores, grilled cheese, rice krispies...

* If you have Lego's, challenge them to build a boat or car.

* Do you have any coloring books, crayons, construction paper, etc...? Any craft items, Just make sure you help and supervise!

* Have them draw a picture of their version of what they think the weather looks like outside.

*Have them come up with stories to tell over some hot chocolate and pb& jelly sandwiches.

What about baking? Cookies or cakes or make home-made pizzas.
What I do with my neighbours kids are we have sliding glass doors and I let them {using water based paint} is put paint on the doors and then they do finger painting and then we put paper on it an make prints. Is easy and even cleaning up is fun.

Make some paper mache balloons and paint them?

What about finger puppets?

I have given you a link where I get the activites for my neighbours kids.

You can dance to their favorite tunes. I personally like Greg and Steve. You can make playdough (get recipie from internet) and take the cookie cutter out. You can exercise with them (jump, job in place, stretch). Make hot coco and cuddle on the sofa and read books. Take out the markers and crayons and make books. Play board games (candyland, chutes and ladders etc.) Let them play with water in the kitchen sink (my children love it) and add bubbles. Make bannana nut bread. Good luck...

Please try Japanese origami (paper folding art). Start with simple one with unused papers( old news paper, calander, ads). They will really enjoy it. It makes them inventory and interesting. Quiet too. First teach them the method, then let them make it by themselves. Give you a few private time. It really works with my son. Simply buy a book or try some free pattern here.

Playdough, let them help you make cookies, build a tent in their room out of blankets, get out your material scraps and old wrapping paper and let them make a collage out of it on a poster board. Go to the local library and let them each pick a book, go to your indoor swimming pool.
