My dr suggested I make an appointment for a mammogram since I am 35 but I have fibrocystics breast disease. How would they be able to do a mammogram on me?

They do it the same as any woman. It squishes your breasts flat and provides a readable diagnostic tool- since they can't use our lumpy breasts to find anything!!

I always joke mine are like a bag of pudding, starfish, BB's and sand. No one believes me, because normal girls just have the pudding! Totally unfair if you ask me!!

I did my first Mammogram at 27, when they were still pointing straight up and gravity hadn't become unkind. It wasn't very comfortable, but it was WORTH IT to know there wasn't any lump in there that didn't belong. I have a family history of breast cancer and go every year or so now.

I'm 36 and they're less, ahem, firm- shall we say? It's not that bad, and I think they're more careful with girls like us, honestly. You'll be relieved to hear I was told we don't statistically look any more inclined to develop the cancer with ours than the pudding-filled kind. Now go get your wellness confirmation!

Best of luck, and cheers!

As you are under 40 and have fibrocystic brests, I would be asking my Dr about an MRI or ultrasound examination rather than a mammogram.

They typically do a mamogram and then a sonogram and ultra-sound on me because the tissue is so dense. Hang in there:)
