I have had a constant pain in my left breast close to my armpit for about 6 months. I went to the doctor after about the first month and he said it was probably a swolen lymph node and would go away in a few weeks. It never did. The pain feels like someone poked me in the side of my rib and is always there, sometimes hurting more than other times. Could this be cancer of maybe fibrocystic breast disease? I have a sister with fibrocystics breast disease but she says the pain is typically in both breasts and gets worse with caffiene or closer to her period. Please help and/or give me some resources to work with. Thanks!

It's probably not breast cancer. If it is fibrocystic breast disease, it is aggravated by coffee, tea, chocolate and nuts. When I backed off of those items, the pain lessened.

For breast cancer look for the following items:
skin that looks like orange peel

a pucker in the skin of the breast (the first two were my symptoms; they looked like scar tissue, but I'd never had surgery there)

leaking nipple or inverted nipple

one breast getting smaller

of course, the lump

If you are concerned, please go to your doctor and request an ultrasound or mammogram. I applaud your diligence in this; it could save your life!

It's possible but unlikely you have it at such a young age. It may just be growing pains as other posters have alluded to. If I am not mistaken, 1 out of 8 or 1 out of 9 women develop breast cancer in their lifetime (at least in the Western countries). Since you do have a family history I think your chances are higher that you will develop it over your lifetime.

my breast cancer started with shooting pains close to my armpit, then my breast seem to get larger then it started to looked inflamed. don't wait, go back to the Dr. or seek out another doctor as soon as possible. its better to be safe than sorry. mine was not found until in its 3rd stage and I've had chemo, surgery, radiation and lymph nodes removed but they could not get all the cancer because it had spread into my lymphatic system. now I'm being told they can keep it in control and keep it from spreading any further for a while.

Typically, breast cancer is rarely painful until late stages.

In fybrocistic breasts, family links increase your risk factor.

Get it re-checked by your Dr to be sure.

I'd hit up the doctor again and inform them that whatever they thought it was didn't go away.
