Only you can really make that decision. It's very risky to have sex so immediately after delivery and you could get infected. I tore upwards with my daughter, it was excruciating. I wanted nothing to do with sex! My husband became very persistant after a week and wouldn't let me be. After two weeks he became unbearable so I gave in, despite the fact I still had stitches. It was so painful that I couldn't stop crying and he aggrivated the tear. I regret it, but luckily I didn't get infected. The tear never healed together.

After that incident I waited for three and a half more weeks when I was sure the tear was healed and the spotting minimized. We wore protection and I made him go VERY SLOW and VERY EASY. If he's not willing to wear protection or go easy then do not have sex because you are at great risk of getting pregnant and getting an infection. The body is very susceptable to getting pregnant after you have a baby.

I do not plan on having anymore children, but if I do I will wait the full six weeks. I don't care how much he wants it, it's -MY- body he's putting at risk.

I tried 4 and a bit weeks after my first and it killed! Waited another 2weeks and even then its still a little tender. So 2nd time we waited a good 7 weeks before having decent sex. If you do it any sooner its just too uncomfortable, you have to stop and then both parties are unsatisfied (well maybe not him if he finishes himself!)
Good luck and just wait. It'll be so much better. People don't realise how long it really takes for it to all heal properly.

My first baby was a c-section and I waited 8 weeks. I tore with my second baby(natural VBAC) and had stitches but had sex 4 weeks post partum without pain or problems. My third baby was a breeze(another natural birth) this time without any tearing. I had sex again about 4 weeks post partum without any pain or discomfort. If you have stopped bleeding and you feel ready then go for it. you know your body. My midwife told me to try when I was ready. At 4 weeks I was fine. BTW- your new baby and my sister share a birthday:) congratulations

I've had 3 children and every time after wards it was a little painful. However if your swelling has gone done and you feel back to normal down there, you can as long as you wash up immediately after wards to keep your stitches and that area clean to prevent infection! After my 1st child my swelling stayed until about 6 weeks so I had no choice. But after my 2nd and 3rd even with stitches I was able to resume sexual activity after about 2 weeks with no problems.

They suggest 6 weeks, but if you comfortable trying it, go for it...as long as your stitches seem healed. Just make sure you take it REALLY slow, kinda like it's a first time, because you don't want to risk ripping open any stitches or opening any wounds that would risk infection. It's probably safe at 4 weeks, but for safety and healing reasons, I think Dr's like it to be 6 weeks to make sure...

I tried to wait 6 wks after my first but i ended up having sex after 4 wks. The dr yelled at me when i went to my checkup. She said i risked getting a major infection, could have tore again and that became infected....she said that they say 6 wks for a reason. They also said that I could have became pregnant by having sex at 4 wks and that would have put me and the baby at risk that close together. I had to take a pee test when i went back to make sure i wasn't pregnant again because you can get pregnant before your period comes back.

I had two c-sections and with my first daughter I waited about 3 weeks and I think it was 4 weeks with my second. It's all in what you are comfortable with.

i waited the 6 weeks after my first, probably around 5 with my second... and longer after the twins, but they were c section and i HURT.

what is wrong with waiting 6 weeks? you will not die if you go without sex until then, why chance hurting yourself and not being healed properly? plus you are most fertile after giving birth!
