I am going to visit my mother in the alzheimers care unit. She wants to leave with me and she can't. I'm not sure what to say to her. Should I lie and say I'm working on getting her out or do I try to tell her the truth? My heart breaks at the thought of this. Anyone willing to share would help so much.

Be honest and tell her that you love her. You may not be able to say that to her too much longer, so say it now.
And let her know that you will see her again soon.
I am in the same situation and know that honesty is best, and time with them is precious.

Don't lie to her. Simply tell her that you love her and that you will see her tomorrow, or later in the week(whenever you are going to see her next). I know it hurts but your mother is safer where she is and you are doing the very best thing for her.

Alzheimer patients do not have long term memory. Tell her you'll be back to see her.
