Did you ever hear this expression: “The only thing that’s constant is change.”

Its true! Rising fuel costs and rising production costs caused many dairies to eliminate the friendly milk man.

As a very young boy, I remember opening the front door about four [4] times each week to a few glass bottles with crimped paper and cardboard tops. There were quarts and half-gallons. I remember looking at the top of the bottle. There was that delicious cream which floated to the top.

My Dad loved his buttermilk. Mom liked milk in her coffee. Once in a great while, my brother and I were treated to made-at-the-dairy chocolate milk. [I can taste THAT now! WOW! The memories are fantastic!]

The larger families on our block got only half-gallons delivered.

As time went by, for one reason or another, the dairies closed or merged. They found it less-expensive to deliver large quantities of milk to the stores, letting the stores deal with storage, rotation and sales.

He delivered dairy products to my neighbor just this morning. From there I assume he made other deliveries and then went back to the dairy. Why? what have you heard? Was he in an accident? Is he okay?

Perhaps this is a question for a 'calcium anthropologist'

Too many kids around the neighborhood that looked like him, he had to go into a witness protection-like program to get away from all the angry husbands!

People started buying milk at the grocery store so they didn't need him to bring it any more and he lost his job. Poor guy.
