You don't have much of an option, your gonna have to buy a real version, the cheapest that a friend got was from Mirco Soft directly, they did it online and sent him a copy of the disk. I think he said it cost like $99 bucks for XP pro directly from Mirco soft.

It is either Genuine or Pirate!! Did you go to Windows Security Update and get that? I f you did and that is where you were told that, then you have got a Pirate System. Which means that somebody put a version of Windows on your computer. Or you did the Help and found it for your self anyway if you did then its a Pirate setup

It means whoever built the machine used an unauthorized version of Windows XP. Microsoft will sell you a genuine version for about $150. Microsoft will not let you update until the genuine issue is resolved. Not difficult, just a matter of getting a new "keycode" from Microsoft for your system.

buy a legal copy. if it is a legal copy then you may have used the key too many times, in wich case call up microsoft and tell em you got a virus and you need to get a new validation key.

Hold up, are you using Vista? If so, when does it tell you this because curtain programs makes Vista says that it's un-real even though it's not.
*edit* well I guess we will never know what truly wrong because you never told us what windows you are using. Good luck, I guess . . .
