Believers call it "hardness of heart," this deafness you refer to, not knowing they themselves suffer from it.
"Resist not the world" applies in either direction - it reinforces opposition. You'll have to be more clever to make an impact on what is essentially simple misunderstanding and 'attachment' to foolish ideas.
What is in it for them is the question. Of course the world would be better off without religious wars, but you can't expect them to give up 'believing in a personal god" for that! COME ON, NOW!!!

Just a thought here, but have you ever thought about what happens if you die and whoooo the belivers were right and there is a God? it's a little too late at that time. I don't know how old you are but living your life is the longest thing you can do, but we don't live for eternity so if you look back on your life and think man this has been a long time... consider for a moment eternity in hell with not one drop of water. You might want to consider examining your beliefs a bit further before its really too late.

Can you not see God's work in everything around you? Why do we have the ground we walk on? Why do we breathe in oxygen? Why do we see beautiful sunrises and sunsets? Why do we have water to drink and food to eat? People take it for granted that the sun will rise another day. What if it didn't? What if the Bible's prophecy (which for a fact about the end times are coming true at an accelerating rate such as increase of natural disasters, changes in weather, and other prophecies the Bible speaks about regarding the end times) about the sun turning dark, the moon turning to blood, the stars falling from the sky and the heavenly bodies being shaken were to happen sometime in this lifetime or if not our lifetime, in the lifetime of our children or grandchildren? Talk about a major blackout (of the worst kind). It's a hopeless situation to think that everything we see all around us (clouds, blue skies, sun, moon, stars, rainbows, flowers, trees, water, people, animals, etc...) came about by random chance, by accident. If that were so, we are all doomed. But praise be to God for being the perfect Creator and knowing all the angles and adjustments to be made when creating everything so that there is order. Imagine what would happen if there were no God or the order of things which God established went into chaos and disorder. Like if the planets, like earth, went out of order in their rotation around the sun, such as shifting off course until we either burn from being too close or freeze from being too far away? God created the planets to be in perfect alignment and staying on course when rotating around the sun to prevent destruction and disorder.
Also, I have watched and read about and met numerous scientists who were atheists who became Christians upon studying nature and science more closely and also reading the Bible closely and discovering that God is the Creator.
You may believe there is no God all you want, but what will you do in the end when you meet Him face to face?
You may claim there is no God, but your soul knows different because it came from God. Only in God, do you find true love, peace, happiness and hope. I pray you will find God and be saved.

What do you feel you accomplish by getting someone not to believe? I think you should find something better to put your time into. I really think if you ask a question like this your really missing something, and I bet you could be more productive doing something else with your free time.

Why do you have to convince them? That's what they're trying to do to everyone. You're becoming your own worse enemy. You believe what you want, and let them believe what they want. It's like to kids fighting in the back seat! "He's preaching to me again!" "No, he started preaching first!"
Everyone just needs to leave each other alone. Believe what you want and leave it at that.
