With a virus, there is no "cure". Like the doctor said, you have to let the virus run it's course!

Having that said, the best thing you can do is treat the symptoms to combat how she is feeling. If she's cold, keep her warm. If her stomach is upset, give her something to help her with that, etc. etc.

The bottom line is, there is not one quick fix for all of it! I know how hard it is to have your little one suffering, but it's only going to get better......you'll both survive!! :)

BUT make sure to stay observant of her symptoms, in the event they worsen......you need to have at least an idea of a time line for when the symptoms worsen.

Lastly, symptoms tend to lessen in severity during the day for both children and adults. When we're sick at work, we don't notice how awful we feel because we're distracted, and not fixated on our symptoms. But then at night, we get them back, and we think we feel worse, because we're comparing how we felt earlier in the day. It's the same with children.

Hope this helps - and your little one feels better soon!!

Usually an intestinal virus just has to run its course, but I'm surprised that the doctor didn't suggest something to make her feel better. Whenever I've had the stomach flu, I take Pepto Bismol and drink gingerale or 7up. She should take fluids so she doesn't get dehydrated, and when she feels better, introduce soft bland foods gradually, such as toast, clear broth or applesauce. Strong tea is also good for an upset stomach. I hope she gets better soon.

The good news is you took your daughter to a doctor. I see people putting up posts here when they should go to a doctor, it amazes me. We all hate to see our kids suffer, but sometimes these stomach flu's have to work there way through. Try some Ginger ale, or try some pep-to Bismol. Those may settle her tummy a little. I don't know your child's age, so read the Pepito bismol bottle first. While your at the store, ask the pharmacist for a little guidance, most are pretty good and understand what stomach flu's are in the area, and what helps. Good luck, she'll be fine probably within 12-24 hours.

Unfortunately, if it's viral, there really is no medicine to make it go away.

But, for relief, you could try some Pepto Bismol. (Age appropriate, of course.)

Make sure to keep her hydrated. Push as many fluids as she'll take. With an intestinal virus, you need to make sure she doesn't become dehydrated.

The best medicine in the world is a little TLC. So make sure and give plenty of that. :)

Although Virus's can't be taken away by antibiotics, you can give her some Tylenol or Motrin for the pain. Also just lots of fluids and if she is not eating see if you can get her to take the shakes or drinks that have all the vitamins and minerals in them. Crackers, yogurts, bananas. If you can get solids in her then try but if you cant the shakes or drinks will help.
I wish her the best and hope that she gets feeling better.
I know you know lots of love helps heal the heart too ;)

OH poor thing! That wouldn't be nice.

Do you trust what the doctor says = have you been to him in the past?

I would probably get a second opinion.

I had lung operation last week. my original doc told me i had pinched never under my shoulder blade!!! got second opinion as didnt sound right as was having chest pains when took deep breaths and would get short of breath quite easily and found out i had to have an operation and have chest tube in for 2 days!!!!

The best thing for a virus is peanut butter. Nuts contain lots of protein (why many energy bars are nut based), and this gives the body energy to fight the virus.

Make sure she stays hydrated and if you feel that there might be something more to do get a second opinion. My daughter was really sick and I took her to a doctor who said it was just a sinus infection and my baby was REALLY sick and I didnt believe it was a sinus infection so I took her to another doctor and it was pneumonia so just go with your heart after all thats your baby girl!!! Good luck and I hope she feels better!!!

That's pretty odd the doc said their was nothing he could do. Unless she is like 5 he could at least have given her some type of pain relief for children. How old is she?

She has been suck to long. U need a new doctor. Milk and ginger ale will help. If she is still sick today u better tell your doctor to do something for her or get a new doctor or take her to the ER room.
