I'm a nineteen year old female. I was diagnosed with optic neurtitis a couple of weeks ago. I've had the following symptoms for the past months- tingling/temporary numbness in my arms and legs, shaking legs, hands, unbalanced coordination, fatigue, and general weakness. I had an MRI done last week and it was negative. The symptoms are still present and i'm suppossed to see a neurologist soon but i was wondering if anyone had any idea on what could be wrong and any information? Thanks so much!!!!

I have Peripheral Neuropathy (nerve damage) When mine started it was tingling, pins and needles and a vibration going right through my body. The pain is excruciating 24/7 I am completely numb from waist down now, walk like a drunk. And now it is in my hands which is such a pain as you cannot tell if something burns you,I have had many accidents falling over as my balance is up sh*t creek. If your MRI showed nothing get them to do a nerve conduction test,Blood/Screening/Urine Test and an EEG as well as EMG.Another one is a Lumber Puncture.Get them to check your Vitamin B12 levels.Do yourself a big favour learn as much as you can and write it down, then when you see the Neurologist take aim and fire away with all your questions, and write down whatever he says.If I had known what to look for in the beginning I would not be as bad today.Good Luck.

DEFINITLY go to your neurologist appointment! They'll probably run a ton of tests! In the mean time I saw a show with a lady who had similar symptoms and it was found she had Multiple Sclerosis.
http://www.mult-sclerosis.org/mssymptoms.html Here are a list of symptoms. Maybe ask your neurologist about this possibility!
I hope you find an answer and start feeling better soon!

Well since u had optic neuritis , may be it still have some effect . Your symptoms are confined to neurology and MRI showed nothing which means there is nothing sinister like space occoupying lesions . I strongly urge to see the neurologist n have it sort it out . I m sure u'll come thru very well.

The symptoms you describe might point to Multiple Sclerosis (which is treatable). When you see the neurologist, ask him to (at least) rule that condition out.

have they ruled out Parkinson's? Any family member ever diagnosed?

Good luck honey...remember the importance of family history, take a moment and think about those aunts, uncles...etc. I'm sure you've been asked that already.

Please go to the doctor ASAP your symptoms are too much for a 19 year old, please just go and if you don't think that doctor is doing all you can please go get a 2nd opinion. I would hate for you to keep waiting and your symptoms persist and something happens to you. Ask for a CAT scan also!!! I will be praying for you but please go and see a doctor ASAP!!!!
