This sounds more like a swollen lymph gland, generally brought on by infection.

The one located behind the ear usually reacts to infections in the ear/nose/throat/mouth area.

Has she had a cold? earache? toothache? sore throat? etc

If so, as soon as the infection clears, the gland should reduce.

If she is worried, she should see her Dr.

Most likely is isn't serious and can be many different things, so please tell her not to get worried and just have it checked out by her primary care dr. or a good deratologist. Having said that, I DO have to agree with Bacse, who posted right above me, though. I also have had squamous cell skin cancer...5 of them, to be exact...and they certainly can appear very quickly and abruptly. I'm not telling you this to alarm you, but just to correct something said by a different poster.

Happened to my brother. A lump just showed up on his neck. It turned out to be a metastasis from a squamous cell carcinoma in his throat. They dicked around with it for 6 months before treatment. He died.

Get it checked out immediately. Don't delay treatments.

Cancer does not come on that quickly. It is probably a cyst. She does need to go to the Dr though, especially if it keeps growing.

Not sure if it could be cancer or not... it could just be a bump like if she hit her head on something... but she should go to the doctor and have it checked out.
