My two speculations are heat, (because my son has something similar, more like a diaper rash covering his butt, that comes and goes) or that we recently started potty training. So could it possibly be just the sensitive skin in that area being introduced to standard toilet paper (when not at home which is happening a lot lately)? When I put desitin on it tonight after her bath, she said it hurt. Anyone else potty training a girl have a similar issue in the beginning?

I can honestly say my daughter has not been molested! I know I never did and my husband (the only other person to help with the potty training duties) is always visible or in a open area. And he works nights so can't do anything at night to her!

She wears those underwear made by Gerber that have an extra lining of cotton in the center to "help" with absorbency. But she is pretty much potty trained! We started this about 2 weeks ago and I'm only now seeing this redness.

I know exactly what it is my daughter had the same thing going on when she first started potty training and its because her area isint getting cleanned good enough. It is just like a diaper rash. The urine isnt getting wiped off good enough with the Toilet paper and its just irritating her skin. Use baby wipes to wipe her after she uses the bathroom then you can dry her with a sheet of toilet paper. You can also put a little bit of baby powder to keep her dry.

Perhaps her urine is the culprit. It could be burning her skin and as she wipes with toilet paper, it spreads the urine just enough to cause the irritation. Using non-scented wipes is great. Also, try increasing her water intake. That will water down her urine and make it less of a irritant.

Other things... it could be the bubble bath or soap you are using. Since her skin is more sensitive now, it could be be making matter worse as she sits in the tub of soapy water. Try Dove or Ivory followed by a hypoallergenic, scent free lotion. Also, try using a gentler laundry detergent and rinse her clothing twice on the wash cycle. That will get rid of all of the soap sediment. When you dry her clothes, don't use the fabric sheet as it has a film that can cause a rash. Try a larger size of panties so that the area can breathe easier. Last tip, try using a makeup sponge to spread on the diaper rash cream. You can gently dab in on and it spreads a lot easier. Make sure you use a new one with every application.

I would advise you to consider the detergent you are using.

Normally, when the weather is agreeable, it's not a problem.. but when it's hot, the scents and colors from the detergents can be a problem.

"Molestation" is always a concern, but if you can account for her whereabouts at ALL times then OBVIOUSLY that shall be ruled out.

Focus on her potty habits, perhaps you need to add a "cornstarch" powder to her routine. (Talcum (talc) powder will facilitate (increase) the growth and spread of bacteria, while Cornstarch based powders will NOT--so use CORNSTARCH ONLY!!)...

Focus on cotton panties ONLY ( I recall MANY a problem when my Mom would buy new underpanties)..

Keep the area as dry as possible and apply a topical yeast killing cream-- like generic Monistat (MICONAZOLE) -- to her area at bedtime, you can also use a hydrocortizone cream in the 0.5% strength IN MODERATION, to help with her inflammation.

I was a Pharmacy Tech for a LONG time prior to the birth of my first baby. Please consider my advice.♥

It could be an allergy to toilet paper (I've noticed more people have problems with the charmin or other super-soft papers), or it very well could be a rash. This time of year it's really hard to keep that area dry and rashes are common. I'd go ahead and check with the dr, because different types of rashes that are caused by different things need different care. There are steroid creams, antifungal creams, or regular medicine. Especially if the rash cream doesn't work I'd give the doc a quick call tomorrow.

I get a rash just like that when I use any kind of laundry soap except ALL free and clear on my underwear.. Even tide hurts like crazy. Rinse all of her underwear now (dont wait till they are dirty) and then try a gentle detergent.

I think desitin creamy helps. (I also get irritation from soap- dove seems okay for me or ivory. Or just wash well with plain water.)
