In a way, yes. Their imaginary friend is actually an imaginary "Daddy". They basically don't want to take responsibility for their own lives. So God Daddy takes that weight off their shoulders.

Not imaginary, the concept did not come out of our imagination, but out of a religious book, the Bible. But He is an invisible friend.

Yep! Friends and Family (father and all that). Reading myths like Jonah and the whale. Perhaps a lesson on fiction vs non fiction would be of assistance.
