You are not letting him go completely. Even though you call him your "ex", he really isn't. You still love and care for him, which would explain the spiritual closeness you still have from him, hence the dreams.
You will get back together with him in due time. The fact that you have a child with him, I would definatley pursue that fact of making amends and get back together.
For what ever reason you broke up with him, the fact that you have a child with him only complicates the matter. You want very much for your ex to be a part of your life as well as your childs life. I would ask that you try your best to make things work and that the two of you work together for the best interests of the child, not just your own interests.

probably that you are bored with your life as it is and want someone in your life. the ex just happens to be a handy symbol your intellect brings out and parades around for you. You need to get out more and forget about the ex.

It probably just means that you are not over him. And since you see him every other day and probably think about him often , then he is always on your mind. So since he is on your mind when you go to sleep, He is who you dream about.
