I adore my 4 cats, and I'm an atheist, so no, they aren't gods. Rather than praying to them, I just thank them for allowing me to live in their house.

I had a cat called Puss once.
I'd be upstairs reading or watching TV, or neither, and think: I wonder where Pussÿ [edit - I just found out I'd been calling my Puss a name Y!A doesn't like] is - I haven't seen her for a while.
Within a minute or so she'd appear with a questioning look; she’d tilt her head as if to ask: Yeah; what?
Show me a god that's as consistent about showing up without even a sound being uttered out loud in request and I'll call it god - until then cats are gods as well as Gods.
And to all you Theists – loosen up; get a life.
Sheesh – you’d think y’all had the threat of hell hanging over your head if you didn’t tow the line 24/7.

Well, ancient Egyptians once worshiped cats as gods, and all through kittendom, they have never forgotten this. They probably also don't totally forgive Christians for the whole cats-as-witches thing either when the Xtians were really psycho murderers.
You can adore someone or something without considering it a god(dess). So, no, your kitty is not a god. Don't give him/her any ideas, please!

There's a difference between adoration and worship, though I do know quite a few people who live on the that line.
Some would say that anyone or anything who receives more attention than the church is a God to them, including their spouse, work, kids, or yes, even a pet..

You know what? This question is so lame it's pitiful. From a Christian standpoint though, if you put your cat or anything else before God, it in a sense becomes an idol. Try to be a little more original next time though, okay?

I adore my cat, but he puked on the rug next to my bed last Tuesday at five in the morning. Not very god-like behavior.
On the other hand, he does expect praise and petting at all times......

There is only one God and he is our creator. It's OK to love your cat but just remember your cat is not God. I think worshiping your cat like it is a god is breaking one of the 10 commandments called idolatry.

i am going be a bit "deep" answering that...i have a dog and i adore her as well some times i wonder when i look at my dog running and jumping around me, he is bringing me comfort and peace, i cannot expect others to feel the same when they look at her, so if what brings someone peace is intransferible and personal, how can i say god doesnt exist? he doesnt exist for me but if the idea of god brings comfort to other people, let it be!...i have enough with my dog but i cannot pretend everyone to feel the same as i do so let everyone feel peace with whatever they want.

I don't admit any such nonsense. I love cats and kittens and have rescued many, and found homes for them. I have a favorite saying, "when I look into the face of a kitten, I see the face of Jesus". But that doesn't mean that I think the kitten is Jesus! I just see the innocence in the face of a kitten, and it reminds me of Jesus.....DISAGREE!
