Alright, so this is my third stye this week. And there might be another one forming as well. I was wondering why I get so many. I have been getting A LOT this year, and I don't know why. I mean, I am fourteen. I do not wear makeup at all, I was my face twice a day, and I don't put my hands near my eyes or on my face. My styes are not that bad, and usually go away in a day, but this one I have is pretty narley, and it doesn't seem like its going away any time soon. Is it just bad luck? Or do I have some eye problems?

A sty is a bacterial infection, usually caused by staph. Staph is always present on our skin but is harmless unless there is an opening for it to enter. When it enters the gland of an eyelash, you get a sty.

Even though you don't wear eye makeup, there are several other things that can make you prone to forming them:
oily face
oily hair
dandruff
getting hands near your eyes

For prevention:

Handwashing is imperitive! You may be touching your eyes and not even be aware of it.

If you wear contact lenses, make sure you are keeping them scrupulously clean and that you always wash your hands before handling them.

Keep your hair and skin as clean as possible. Also, keep your hair dandruff free.

Buy some no tear baby shampoo. Dilute it with water and every day, using a Q-tip dipped in the diluted shampoo, clean the base of your eyelashes.

If your sty problem continues, you have a sty that lasts more than a week or a sty that gets a hard center, see your doctor
