What type of activities would you like to do?
As has been mentioned, the East Coast is great at this time of year (though we've had 3 days of rain in Brisbane)...

There is something to do from Cairns all the way down to Melbourne.

My best advice would be to work out what sort of temperature you want to deal with...Cairns will be warm (max 26-28 degrees) while Melbourne will be cool (max 15-17 degrees). Everything else will be somewhere in between.

Personally, I have a bias for Brisbane and the Gold Coast, depending on where you are coming from, the temperature is just warm enough for swimming (at least for locals, if you come from a colder place you'll easily think its warm). You have a lot of oppurtunities to occupy yourself in this region...the fun and beaches of the Gold Coast (there are a few themeparks too) and the city feel of Brisbane (which isn't as big and crowded as Sydney and Melbourne). Obviously there are a lot of other activities in the area, way too many to list..but if you have any more specifc questions, please ask.

Go to the east coast, start in sydney and travel north. The whole coast is beautiful and going all the way to north queensland is worth it. There is so much to see but be sure to do the touristy things (the harbour bridge, great barrier reef, ect) A trip of a life time.....

It is still cool in the south and there is still snow on the Alps but anywhere from Sydney north will be great. We had the Olympic Games in Sydney in September and the weather was perfect.
