Don't worry about what they say. Just know that you're one of the less than 1% of Americans (by Americans, I mean people living in the US) that has the courage to protect the country they live in. Be proud to wear the uniform....I feel proud everytime I put it on, and there's going to be people who disagree with your choice, but it's YOUR choice. By the way, thanks for joining we need all the help we can get out here! I just convinced my brother to join too!

First, Congradulations if you have enlisted. Those that critisize have no idea that it's the soldier/sailor/marine/air force, that keeps them free and allows them to critisize. Our country doesn't just go to war for the sake of war. We have never taken and keep 1 inch of land as a result of the wars we have fought, most other countries want to grab territory. If we counted on the ones that critisize I'd question how long we would be free. I was drafted back in the 60's, it was the best experince on how to grow up fast that I ever had. I understand why the military doesn't want a draft, they don't want the rubble that the schools are graduating and that the parents have abandoned, but the draft helped a lot of young people on their way. Talk of the draft is out there and I hope it comes back for the sake of my country, and yes I have male kids 33, 31, and 24, and no, none have ever been in the service. You say you are Persian, so I understand your from Iran, or you had your roots in Iran. The Persian people are good people, the leadership is spoiling for a fight with the USA. My hope is the good people of Iran overthrow the current leaders before it's too late. Understand that when the leader of Iran says he will blow Israel off the map, Israel won't wait for them to do it, Israel will take down Iran. The Jews know that the world forgot them and their problems in WW2, and they won't wait to get snookered again. Good Luck, your country, the USA thanks you for the sacrifices you are about to make in time and trouble.

I would tell them that you want to fight for their freedom. If we don't fight (even if it seems like a pointless reason) then we run the risk of losing everything that we have fought to keep for so many years. Why do you think we don't speak German in the U.S. because men went to war to make sure it didn't happen. I think it is admirable that you want to join. My husband is in the Army 13 years now and I never doubted that what he is doing is right for our family and everyone Else's. I hear people say stupid things about the war in Iraq and it does offend me but everyone can have their own opinions. Even if I don't agree with George Bush I am loyal to this country not the person running it.

How can you have relations with people when you are leaving town??? You owe no one an explanation--just walk away. I am sitting here thinking how the people spit on us in uniform. In 20+ years when you retire from the Navy you can look up your chums and see how they are doin.. Let them know you are retired at 40+ years old. I got that S*** from my family and now I have been retired 19 years and I really don't have a full time job. US Government Ret Check is quite nice...

It's been awhile but back in my time we were all "baby killers". That did piss me off so I changed a quote of W C Fields a bit. When asked if he liked children he responded "Yes I like children....well done." I shut up one clown by saying that it was not kind to cook them alive. Sometimes you do have to sink to their level when it's face to face. It worked so well I used it (successfully) a few more times. A hazard of wearing the uniform in San Francisco in the 70's
You are on your own to come up with something cute or mean for today's morons.
I should mention that I only sank that low when walking away or not responding did not work.

My husband is in Iraq. It makes me furious that someone would say those things to you! I'm very proud of the men and women that join our forces. Without people like you, people like them would have no freedom to belittle you. Ironic huh? Thank you from the bottom of my heart. As far as dying..you're right it could happen anywhere. We're all going to die sometime...cowering in the corner isn't going to prevent that.
As far as the girl with the comment about the draft....well that speaks for itself!
Hold your head up high.

It's not what others think, it's what YOU think. Do YOU know why you are in the military?
I doubt you'll die, especially not in the navy, but you may have to face the prospect of fighting a pointless war....and so you'll have to suck it up and deal with that.
Just remember you are a free man fighting in a free country, you aren't a slave. Don't do anything you genuinely think is immoral or illegal, even if ordered to.
You have to live with yourself all your life, not with others who just come and go.

its going to happen but you know what its there opinion is there own and not yours its your life and no one has the right to tell you what to do with it im proud of you that you decided to serve unlike so many opiniated cowards out there just dont listen to them and if you can dont associate yourself with thoes people if they are going to be that way its rude of them to judge you and your life decisions that way ive learned in life that there are verry few smart and polite people out there in the world
you tell them that even if they dont agree with all that is going on in the world you and many other soliders have died and fought for the right for them to stand on there soap box and give there opinion and just because they are a coward doesnt give them the right to judge you
tell them that if you die while fighting rather they agree with this war or not atleast you will die a hero no matter what and that is honorable unlike them that will work 20 years at a dead end job only to die in a freeway acident on the way to work one day
statistically there are more people that die from drunk driving acidents per year than have died in this war

Just tell them, freedom taste's sweeter, when you earn it.
Everyone die's, I'd rather die serving my country, than getting T-boned on the freeway, by some drunk.
I'm a vet and I'm proud of my service and my country. My country isn't perfect, but she's worth protecting and sacrificing for.
